                          SWEET ANTHEM PERFUMES
A tiny Shop with a BIG heart

Sweet Anthem Handmade Perfumes located in Seattle, Washington is a tiny perfume studio with huge ideas that transcends to classic named fragrances, a bit on the wild side scents and a studio full of indie brand scents that makes this studio larger than life.

Meredith Smith, a young talented perfumer and owner of Sweet Anthem Perfumes creates scents that are 100% vegan while offering an elaborate Bespoke service.

What I love about Meredith is her passion for helping out indie brands by allowing them sell their creations at Sweet Anthem Perfumes. This proves to me that Meredith is not afraid of competition and is helping this ever growing indie market of perfumers.

I tip my hat off to Meredith because it is businesses like this that shine and in this case help indie perfumers make a name for themselves and get recognition.

This holiday season Sweet Anthem Perfumes presents O HOLY NIGHT, a collection of NEW fragrances and restocks that give a message of warmth for frosty days ahead.

The collection consists of 8 beautifully described scents that will make your mouth water from Moroccan mint and Turkish mocha to Maple sugar.

O HOLY NIGHT collection comes in classic bottles of several sizes and with also for sampling too.

FRAGRANCE REVIEW

                                                                    ZELDA
                                           The Fragrance of a Movement

I was honored to be a judge for the first annual International Artisan Fragrance Salon Awards in San Francisco, California this past summer. It was a competition of indie and natural perfumers to submit their latest creations of aromatic excellence in this unique and ever-growing industry of fragrances.

I had the difficult task to give my opinion of what was considered the "Best Of"...in certain categories.

I had the task of a sniff here and there, wearing scents day and night and ponder ing over several weeks of what I felt the International Artisan Fragrance Salon considered the "Best Of".

One of my selections and vote in regards to the Best Of...went to ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM by En Voyage Perfumes. ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM created by Shelley Waddington who in my opinion had the difficult task of composing a fragrance that tells the story of a woman who in my opinion entered a marriage out of love but wanted to maintain her own vision as a novelist, short story writer, poet and dancer.

Zelda Fitzgerald
ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM tells the story of ZELDA FITZGERALD, the wife of  F. Scott Fitzgerald, an American novelist and best known for his book titled, THE GREAT GATSBY.

How it must have been hard for Mrs. Fitzgerald to be a writer in her own right and then be married to the man who has written on of the greatest books.

ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM is brilliantly composed of dark, sometimes a little harsh and lavishly portrays a soft side of Zelda Fitzgerald.

Born Zelda Sayres in Montgomery, Alabama rose into Southern Society and out-glitzing those born into southern privilege told her own story from the beginning and never stopped to this very day.

Shelley begins the life of Zelda with a roaring of spices that kept me intrigued because I knew there was more to the story. It continue to blossom into a time of grandeur with streaks of creamy magnolia and effervescent floral blossoms that meant to me that Zelda was at the height of her career.

I loved how Shelley swept my heart with the real meaning and at times very sad life of Zelda because Shelley never stop telling the story by using darker scents of amber and vintage musk to represent how Zelda must have wanted at many times to run away in the depths of disappear.

However being dubbed by her husband as "the first American Flapper" in the 1920's is what made Zelda Fitzgerald become an icon in the 1920's.

Vanilla used in the base of this scent is one of my most favorite scents that means to me to go on and live on. It is the second most expensive spice and it is richly used to portray Zelda having strength in what was known later of a tempestuous marriage with F. Scott Fitzgerald.

ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM, is supremely a look into a life of a female writer who had a passion for dancing and wanted a more glamorous life for herself  in the Jazz Age but still wanted a marriage, too.

I finally had time to watch the 2013 release of THE GREAT GATSBY starring Leonardo Di Caprio.
I wore ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM while watching it. It gave me a sense of Zelda through a remarkable fragrance that lasted for many hours and the longer I wore it more notes jumped out at me.

The Sandalwood was so enticing and faithful. I loved every moment of ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM.

This is why I choose it as BEST FRAGRANCE. It is a fragrance so elegantly composed of a women's complicated life. It is a fragrance that tells the life and story as a remarkable masterpiece.

Shelley Waddington, owner and perfumer of En Voyage Perfumes was honored with the TOP ARTISAN FRAGRANCE SALON AWARD GOLD by the International Artisan Fragrance Salon for ZELDA EAU DE PARFUM. Congratulations Shelley!

TOP NOTES: Spiced Italian Bergamot, Spices, Iranian Galbanum
HEART NOTES: Creamy Magnolia Blossom, Garden Florals
BASE NOTES: Smoky Amber, Vintage Musks, Vanilla, Balsams, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Cedarwood, Mousse de Chene

FRAGRANCE REVIEW

                                                  BRANCH & VINE
                                    A Beautiful Transitional Fragrance

Branch & Vine Botanical Artisan Perfume by Providence Perfume Company launched this latest creation in the summer to represent a "summer garden".

I wore it this summer on several occasions and truly was inspired by this rich manifestation of an elegant summer garden teaming with elaborate heady scented flowers such as jasmine with a laid back response of violent streaming with a citrus mimosa plant.

Recently while on a field trip with my son's school to the nature park last week,  I wore Branch & Vine Botanical Artisan Perfume. This was a much cooler day in the Midwest and I was immersed in nature two ways by being in the nature park and by wearing Branch & Vine.

I loved how the butterflies surrounded me and how I was so in tuned with nature and it was all because I was wearing Branch & Vine Perfume. To me it is a beautiful seasonal transitional fragrance that enhances nature at its very core.

It is remarkable how Providence Perfume Company, owner and nose, Charna Ethier gather the leafy greens in this scent to make it smell just like a vine that I smelled so often growing wildly on my grandmother's stone house.

The blend of accords are done created masterfully with full attention to details that brings a correlation of gardens near and far together.

I knew this was the perfect fragrance to wear at the nature park. The butterflies that flew over me was breathtaking and all of my son's classmates were amazed.

While walking and wearing Branch & Vine Perfume, I was as close to nature as God intended and the birds and other insects knew it.

Branch & Wine Botanical Artisan Perfume is one of Charna's most lavish and impeccable fragrances thus far.

Top Notes: sunflower, green bitter orange
Heart Notes: mimosa, muguet leaf accord, neroli, jasmine sambac
Base Notes: vetiver, fir, violet leaf

FRAGRANCE REVIEW

                                           MOTHER
One simple word for an Earthy scent

MOTHER, an eau de parfum by Kedra Hart, Master Perfumer and owner of Opus Oils was inspired by many different facets to created this sensual, earthy and surprisingly fruity appeal.

This creation is surrounded with all things that are pure and reminds us of what a mother is...simplistic, warrior, compassionate and the helper in the creation of life.

My experience with Mother Eau de Parfum was a swirl of different non-anticipated scents bellowing in a fantastic medieval form that took me back into a world I have never known.

Kedra took part in a project with other perfumers called the Primordial Scents Project in 2012 that was created and hosted by Monica Miller, natural perfumer and owner of the blog, Perfume Pharmer.

This inspirational journey and a book read by Kedra called, "The 5th Sacred Thing" by Earth Activist Starhawk was the reason for Mother Eau de Parfum was formed into being.

What a wonderful first impression of this gourmand scent for both men and women with a warmth of chocolate infused with what is called "boozy figs".  It leaves a delicate burning sensation metaphor that creates a surrounding protection of wild roses and woody scents.

I love how the scent lingers in an effervescent way that reminds me of castle, wrought iron gate with a beautiful landscape of earthy flowers in a light balmy breeze highlighed by a sweet innocence.

Mother Eau de Parfum was launched in May 2013 but this time of the year is equally manifesting to this scent.

I wore it on a few chillers days recently and the sillage has never been more bold and beautiful.

It is truly a scent for all seasons and its captivating packaging will give you that sense of maturity with an adorning decorative art nouveau mediallion for a LIMITED TIME.

MOTHER Eau de Parfum is considered an earthy gourmand that is not too sweet but fits perfectly for that man or woman who are pristine professionals that do not want to be considered as overbearing individuals.

I am just wild about MOTHER Eau de Parfum. It is just right for my spiritual personality that is considerate of others.

This is another masterpiece by Kedra Hart.

The Glamour Of Tuberose

FRAGRANCE REVIEW

                                    MOON BLOOM
                            The Romantic Fragrances

I have a new found love with the tuberose flower thanks to MOON BLOOM by Hiram Green.

Tuberose wasn't quite the scent I enjoyed as a young girl. I felt it was too old for me. I remember older members of the church always wore tuberose and tea rose fragrances. Too me it was a toss up of which one smelled the worse, but I am so happy to have discovered MOON BLOOM.

It is a soft and yet crisp scent that is clean and creamy. The warm scent gathers around with the aroma that stays still and comforting.

MOON BLOOM is 100% natural which makes it so unique. I have smelled within the last year tuberose laced fragrances but it screamed, synthetic.

Mr. Green, founder of Scent Systems in London. A most prestigious perfumery of niche scents discovered that some of the finer fragrances on the market were created with synthetics.

So, he looked for other ways of creating fragrances the all-natural way and he has taken the world by storm with MOON BLOOM.

MOON BLOOM is composed of absolutes which makes all the difference from other fragrance oil perfumes.

An absolute is as true as picking the plant from its roots. It is the extract of that plant that gives it that natural scent that I enjoy having in a fragrance.

MOON BLOOM gave me visions of the tropics with sweet smelling sandy beaches covered with coconuts.

There was almost like a banana-like scent that I smelled after the dry-down.

Hiram Green is the nose behind the name and I look for more wonderful fragrances. For this to be his first signature scent, truly tells me that Mr. Green is taking niche perfumery to a much more higher level than I ever anticipated.

Notes: tuberose absolute, jasmine absolute, ylang ylang, coconut, leafy green, spices and resins.

MOON BLOOM is an Eau de Parfum and available for 135 Euros for a 50ml with a classic pump atomizer and 5ml travel atomizer refillable for 25 Euros.

FRAGRANCE EVENT
Editorial

                               ELEMENTS SHOWCASE
                                    Exhibits Grace:Red Carpet Style

To all fragrance fans of Elements Showcase, I hear all the buzzing about tomorrows debut. I know it will be just as grand and informative as the years before.

If you have not heard of Elements Showcase, then you are in for a treat. It is held twice a year in the fall and winter at the Skylight West in New York City.It is the premier for industry leaders, buyers and brands who come to seek what the perfume industry as to offer.

Elements Showcase in my opinion is one of the most thoughtful and innovative curated fragrance trade shows in the fragrance industry.

It showcases indie, artisanal and natural perfumeries who might not otherwise have media attention to this magnitude.

I am truly grateful and I haven't told this to the founders of Elements Showcase, Ulrich Lang, Jeff Lawson and Fredrick Bouchardy of Joya. It gives perfumer bloggers like myself the opportunity to come and explore and meet perfumers and designers firsthand to get answers and on the spot interviews.

Elements Showcase has gained all the respect from perfume industry giants that indicates, it is about time that niche perfumery is discovered and should gain exposure just like any other fragrance showcase.

Elements Showcase has expanded to Dubai in the Middle East. This is the exposure that gives niche perfumery a global opportunity to be a part of a network of suppliers and venues that are looking for the finest and creative fragrances to market.

It gives perfumers that edge to not just look at showcasing in the United States but being known worldwide and increasing the customer base.

I am truly excited more than ever about the niche market. This certainly justifies the higher price for these fragrances because of so much that goes into the scent itself, the packaging, the marketing and the perfumer representing the brand at such showcases as Elements Showcase.

When in New York, go to Skylight West 500 West 36th Street. It will be held Monday, August 19th and Tuesday, August 20th from 9:00am-7pm.

Usually registration is recommended but I am sure there will be no problem getting indoors.

Visitors will be catered with refreshments and chocolates and fine teas while they feast their eyes on the spectacular creations from some of the world's finest representatives of artisan perfumery.

Enjoy!!

Fragrance Reviews

                 HADALI ORGANIC CARIBBEAN SKINCARE
Oil for Body & Hair- The French Style

Well, although summer is here but it is coming to a rapid closure. I couldn't think of a better way to express my thanks to a rather mild summer-not too hot and not too cold (at least in the midwest).

I needed to mention some luxury finds that puts the crest of summer at its best.

One of these finds is by Hadali Organics Caribbean Skincare. It is a hair, facial and body collection of highly organic ingredients that are manufactured in France.

So, what is so Caribbean about it? Well the answer to that is the native coconut oil and cashew nut essence in this collection that smells and provides an island-like substance of tranquility and abundance of earthly goods by land and by sea.

My ultimate favorite is the Hadali-Beauty Fine Oil for Body and Hair. It is a 100ml/3.3 fluid ounce at $60.00 USD.

It is truly a silky liquid that glides on the body with an absolutely lush scent of the tropics and the sillage is long lasting and quite vibrate at times, especially when the sun is at its brightest.

I love how it moisturizes the skin without leaving a greasy feel.

The bottle is beautifully decorated with a crescent of leaves and three black silhouette birds on the edges to give it that extra special glamour. Also, it is a lovely yellow-honey color oil that glistens inside the rectangular bottle. This is a treasure in itself.

Hadali means "sun". This really gives meaning to this product because it especially works wonders after the shower and as a makeup remover.

The essence of Hadali Organic Caribbean Skincare is made of 100% of the total ingredients are of natural origin and 99.5% of the total ingredients proceed from certified organic farming.

So, not only does it look and smell good with luxe packaging it is also excellent for your skin and good for the earth.

This collection is offered with products such as a body scrub, body moisturizer, anti-aging facial cream and facial moisturizer.

Don't let summer breeze by with trying. It will cast your cares away "Caribbeanly".

                               Moroccan Mud
                       It only comes from Africa

There are many products that treat the face and body but you only want the best. My next discovery comes all the way from Africa, north Africa to be exact.

It comes from the mountains of Morocco and it is simply called Moroccan Mud. This is not your typical mud from a spa. It comes from Morocco with minerals and proteins that coat the skin giving it a clearer and bright appearance.

I do not use this everyday but at least twice a week I use it on my face and next. This reddish-brown mud is comes in a powder form but it can be mixed with water, milk and honey and then the consistency becomes a paste.

I use it with water with a two-three drops of organic orange blossom honey. I smooth it over my face and under the eye area. Make sure not to get it in your eyes. Cover your entire face with it and your neck too.

Moroccan Mud can be used entirely on the body. I normally wait at least 4 minutes to dry on the face and about 10 minutes to dry on the entire body. So you may want to read a magazine while you wait for it to do so.

Afterwards go in the shower and let the water wash of the mud. It will take a few minutes and a little help on your part by washing it off with your hands if you are less than a patient person.

Once the mud is completely washed off. You may use your choice of soap or body washes.

Your skin will feel tingly but smooth, clearer and extremely clean!

Ladies, your moisturizer will glide on and your cosmetics will appear brighter because your skin is extremely smooth which will produce a better appearance.

I absolutely love this product!

                                     ANU ESSENTIALS
The Perfume Collection: Created with the essence of Earth

It gives me great pleasure to introduce Anu Essentials Natural Perfumery. Anu is an emerging perfumer who has created her first collection of three natural perfumes that uses the very essences that is all and good.

I remember seeing a photo posted by Anu Prestonia, owner and perfumer of Anu Essentials with her in a natural perfumery class taught by the master perfumer, Mandy Aftel of Aftelier Perfumes.

Soon after seeing that photo, Anu Prestonia featured her natural perfumery.

I knew that something special and wonderful would be revealed and when I got my sample of the collection, I was right!

I was first introduced to Anu Essentials by getting samples of her hair oils. I was extremely impressed and was compelled to write a review about them. So, I knew for a fact that Anu's passion for natural products would be as wonderful as her collection of hair, skin and body products.

This is a true story, after receiving the sample collection of the perfumes, I misplaced them. I looked everywhere for them. I felt bad and I did not want to tell Anu I lost them.

After several months I recently found them. I was so happy because now I could write the review. To my surprise, the perfumes smelled even better. The sillage lasted longer and the aromas were heightened. I keep my samples of perfumes in a air tight container in the basement where it is cool. So, this should tell you that keeping your fragrances in a cool place will prolong your scents.

I wore each one of these scents for several days and read the description of each to keep in mind what I need to seek from each one.

The first scent I wore is SITA. I loved the idea of the Venusian Goddess is to be released upon usage. Awesome! I differently smelled the clove ooze in a deep spicy and majestic fashion that intertwined nicely with the rose otto. This is a smoldering and earthly created scent that speaks universally. This scent is captivating because it surrounds expensive organic spices and it seem with little effort, Anu arranged them so implicitly but I know this is hard work.

MEADOW LARK perfume graces the image of the healing heart. It brings closure and stability in the most compassionate form.

Meadow Lark gives another version of the rose with Bulgarian rose alba and a sweeping scent of sandalwood. My experience with the clary sage is deepened momentarily until after awhile the clementine lifts the spirit.

I truly enjoyed this lighter version because it was during the day-partically a raining day and Meadow Lark waft with the ability to out shine the rainstorm.

SEA SCAPE, this fragrance is bringing the ocean to you. One of my most favorite heady scents is jasmine and Sea Scape gives two different kinds!

The fragrance of water with rushing waves best describes Sea Scape. It is refreshing and once again this third scent comes with its own Bulgarian rose scent.

Seaweed and violet leaf are perfect depiction of the sea with corals roving in the water.

This is a summer scent that will keep you daydreaming at the beach.

Each fragrances is priced at $85.00 USD.

FRAGRANCE REVIEW

                           FRAGRANCE MEETS FASHION
                             Mousseline Peche Eau de Toilette
                        A Collaboration of Artists

I may not have mentioned this lately but when I purchase a sample or bottle of perfume or receive it in the mail. I do not immediately wear it. I love to savor and relish in the complete package in which it was given to me.

For me it is not just the scent but the entire presentation it arrives in. I love fragrances that tell a story. What is the perfumer telling me...why was it created and what is the ending of the story-from beginning to the end.

There maybe days or weeks that I try on a fragrance and walk in it, run win it, sit quietly in it or go shopping in it. How did it smell on me, how did it feel on my skin. Well this is where this review begins.

I received a sample of Mousseline Peche Eau de Toilette in the mail sometime ago. I usually received samples from Charna Ethier. However, this time it was different.

Charna was not just sending me a sample to review but she was sending me a chain of events so to speak.

Moussseline Peche Eau de Toilette, is this  summer's blockbuster of scents comes with another person attached to it.

Mr. Jonathan Joseph Peters, a fashion designer and guest of the ever popular, Project Runway, one of my favorite television shows collaborated with a great perfume artist of this century to show us that he is not afraid of a natural fragrance and how her creations of scents speaks to us.

I learned that Jonathan and Charna knew each other for many years and there was definitely a connection years ago that led to a fragrance collaboration that really spoke to me.

Now, how I felt about it. The scent of peach I undestand is an obsession for Charna, so for me whatever Charna says is best...I follow. I sat on my sofa in the living room and sprayed Mousseline Peche on my left hand. I took in this sweet harmony of peach but when I rubbed my hand across the scent, my skin automatically became smoother.

You would think I was talking about a hand lotion. I don't know how Charna does it but it created a fragrance that made my skin softer and the texture took on another layer as if I had skin of a new born.

This to me is speechless. I repeated this method again and the results were exactly the same. No, this was not a game of chance. It is exactly as Charna created, the

"softest, sheerest peach mousseline de soie."

Mousseline Peche Eau de Toilette is a LIMITED EDITION fragrance but to me it is a scent for ALL SEASONS.

The remarkable undertones of harmonious symphonic pleasures gave me an immediate look into what it would have been to be at Ravinia Park of concerts in Chicago's upscale northshore community.

A breathtaking aroma that is mild, charismatic and I truly almost forgot that is a "fashion" fragrance.

This scent made me curious to see who really is Jonathan Joseph Peters.  I went to www.jonathanjosephpeters.com and within the first few minutes of reading, I knew the kind of person Mr. Peters truly is.

He said thank you, "thank you, thank you" three times to insure that he greatly appreciates you taking time out visiting his website. He has ties to Providence, Rhode Island and thanked friends and family because without them, he would not be where he is today.

Jonathan remembered Charna during his successful years as a designer and recognized not only friendship is the key but her phenomenal talent as a perfumer would bring him evermore success.

I totally agree with Jonathan's  decision to collaborate with Charna. They are truly a winning team not just for their sakes but for all of us to enjoy and bask in the glory of a beautiful fragrance that comes from the heart.

 Perfume Review

                  Fleurs de Gardenia by Creed
                                     Everything is coming up...Pink

The house of Creed, the established house of aristocratic customers since 1760 presents Fleurs de Gardenia Eau de Parfum by sixth generation Master Perfumer, Olivier Creed.

This new revival of the heady scent comes masterfully intrigued with notes of pink fruits and floral to make it unique to the Creed house of perfumes.

Fleurs de Gardenia is a delightfully feminine scent that reaches beyond the measure of anticipation. Its revival and help from Olivier Creed's son, Erwin makes woman-hood the highlight and beauty of this fragrance.

It is light, airy and translucent with romantic flairs of blush roses and First Love gardenias positioned immaculately in abundance.

I truly love the art form of perfumery used to create and/or renew a scent to give it generational years of experience and discussion.

The standard shape of Creed glass bottles for its masterpieces over the centuries comes to no surprise with this soft and shapely feminine bottle engraved with the hint of pink to represent the new age  of a gardenia scent that is truly fit for a queen.

Notes: pink berries, ripe blackcurrant, galbanum, First Love gardenias, double blush roses, lavender peonies, lily of the valley, pink jasmine, soft musk, pink patchouli and Virginia cedar

Ms. Sandrine Videault
Perfumer

It is with great regret to hear the passing of French Perfumer, Sandrine Videault of the house of LesNez Parfums d'Auteurs.

Ms. Videault passed away on July 3, 2013. To her great credit of floral fragrances and olfactory events, she is most famous for her creation of Manoumalia Eau de Toliette.

Not only that, but she is one of the last students of the great Master Perfumer, Edmond Roundnitska.

Ms. Videault too young to leave us too soon will always be remembered by those closest to her and in the world of perfumery her creations will last a lifetime knowing that with each one made, her mind, heart and soul is in each of them.

Fragrance Belles-Lettres Magazine is among her greatest admirers.

Indie Perfume Review

                            BLACKBIRD by House of Matriarch
Packaging is a BIG part of it

Long gone in my estimation are the days when indie perfumers did not have a voice and place to express their creativity in the perfume industry. Long gone are the days when perfumers were in their basements and selling their scents only to relatives and close friends.

In recent years the word "indie" in the perfume industry is a ever growing market of wonderful and fabulous perfumers who own boutiques and shops worldwide with customers worldwide and big and bold attitudes that have climbed the scale of high end raw and mixed media ingredients that have been featured by niche online bloggers and  have gotten noticed by mainstream media both television and in glossy magazines.

I am so happy to be a part of the hugely successful industry that now have their own indie category of perfumers nominated for The Fragrance Foundation's FiFi Award.

Niche perfumes have taken on a new look that challenge those fashion house perfumes and celebrity perfumes.

I know of a perfumer located in the state of Washington whose scents and packaging are a huge part of her remarkable success and from speaking with this perfumer during an email conversation,

"The packaging has to be NICE. There is no room for shortcuts".

Christi Meshell, nose and owner of the House of Matriarch has custom coated perfume bottles that sparkle like colorful gems and other extravagant perfume bottles that launch new collections with a spellbounding sensation.

This brings me to the launch of BLACKBIRD perfume for men. Blackbird has been recognized by Men's Journal Magazine 2013 for being named TOP SCENT and in Sunset Magazine 2013 for BEST OF THE WEST.

BLACKBIRD perfume created for the men's shop BLACKBIRD in Seattle to honor the "mysterious essence of stylemakers and artists".

I have a sample and I was immediately transformed into this lush deep but engaging in a lighter version from what its name may implicate.

BLACKBIRD perfume is a scent that many women would enjoy. I wore it and totally forgot that it is made for men.

There is a sweet compelling nature but it is reassured with such rare and exotic aromas that will suit any attire.

I adored the complexity that talked to me with such essences that are not spoken in everyday conversation due to such unique ingredients in a fragrance.

BLACKBIRD will definitely be the center of conversation when asked by those who want to know what consist such an elaborate scent.

Not only will you look good in your attire but if you want to sound even more intelligent tell them it has NW conifers, Puget sound seaweed, black leather, rare oud and cannabis.

I bet the next time they talk to you, they might just take out paper and pen.

Remember I spoke about packaging. Well, take some additional notes, BLACKBIRD perfume is offered in various sizes but there are two sizes of 666ml that is SOLD OUT! The 888ml size is going for a whopping $5,000.00!

I know WOW! So the whole packaging concept apparently works out. It also indicates what kind of customers cater to Christi's quality. Those who spare no expense and who want the best in quality and packaging.

Christi prides herself on creating unique and having one-of-a-kind bottles that will be immortalized in the history of indie perfumery.

Christi is a celebrity in her own right. I am truly glad to know her for many reasons and if anyone knows about indie perfumery, I would feel intimidated if I were a fashion house or a celebrity.

Indie perfumery has such a way of expressing in so many languages to so many people. Intrepretations from those who love to purchase such scents as those of the House of Matriarch always have a story to tell be it the scents, the bottles, the production and having spoken with Christi herself.

It is a win-win situation and no other category can defeat it.

So, for the men's grooming industry. Congratulations! You are into main stream with cutting edge fragrances that are also good to the Earth.

Men, take the plunge...get in the groove and experience the House of Matriarch for yourself and Happy Father's Day.

Book Review

                                 KYPHI an Ancient Egyptian incense
                                   A book about its history

One of the most ancient perfumes is incense. Its origin began in Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. Incense used for religious rites in Ancient Egypt continues to bless many churches, mosques and temples today.

If not used for religious rites, incense are used in homes to radiate a smoky scent that hovers in a mystique way.

Kyphi: The Sacred Scent is a new paperback book that talks about the incense of Kyphi as being one of the most important scents in Ancient Egypt.

The Kyphi recipe was lost for thousands of years but author, Karl Vermillion brings it back to life.

If you are into Egyptologist and want to know more about the origin of incense, then this book is for you.

 Indie Fragrance Review

                                                      CAFE V
                                    by Olympic Orchids

While staring out the window of my home on this Memorial Day and sipping a cup of coffee. I am reminded of those who have gone before us to protect this great country. If not, I would not be staring out my window at this time sipping a cup of coffee.

This brings me to my latest discovery of a fragrance that is inspired by Seattle's great coffee houses and how CAFE V came to be.

I met Ellen Convey, business owner and nose of Olympic Orchids at a fragrance exhibition last year. Olympic Orchids was established in 2010 in the Pacific Northwest designing handcrafted fragrances inspired by orchid flowers.

Ellen was so inviting and so passionate about telling all about Olympic Orchids that made me become humble in her presence.

Its not a moment that goes by that I am not seeking the update on the weather. It seems lately that most of the country is being visited by rainstorm after rainstorm.

My agenda today is not to barbecue but to continue to sip my cup of coffee and take in the aroma of CAFE V Eau de Parfum.

This wonderful gourmand scent is steamed in a warm concoction of royal essential oils and absolutes to give its entity to the cacao that is truly irresistible.

Its highs and lows are filtered with dark cacao, spicy chai and mellows to the sweet aroma of vanilla, cream with sustaining wood.

The sillage reminds me of its long lasting compassion to the non-stop raining moments and how it is created to bring memories in good taste that goes from the morning to the night.

What is  even more pleasing to me is the cost! This finely crafted scent in my estimation should cost a lot more. I say this because of all that I get from it.

Its lasting implications are what fine scents are all about. It should be about the story, the history and the lasting memories when worn each time that should warm the heart.

CAFE V, for men and women is the perfect scent for me today.

expresso-roast coffee, dark cacao, vanilla, cream, spicy chai, cardamom, leather, wood
