FRAGRANCE REVIEW

                                                 DEMETER FRAGRANCE LIBRARY
                                                             Barbados Cherry

If you haven't been on a vacation yet this summer, maybe I have the perfect solution on where to go. Recently I met two ladies from Barbados who told me about an incredible fruit that is produced in Barbados. In fact, it is a cherry known as the 'Barbados Cherry' that is one of the richest of all fruits with its potent content of Vitamin C.

I was curious to see what a Barbados cherry looks like. So, I went online and what popped up was a fragrance by Demeter Fragrance Library known as Barbados Cherry.

The Barbados cherry is a soft, delicate and juicy fruit that starts out as a colorful shrub with small pink and white flowers,

It grows in full bloom in spring, late summer and fall.

Barbados Cherry by Demeter captured the essence of this beautiful fruit with a sweet and tart aroma that stays on for more than six hours!

Demeter Fragrances Library scents which is an enormous collection are natural and Barbados Cherry is a sweet scent that represents the country of Barbados beautifully.

So, why not considered a fragrance from a tropical island like Barbados Cherry Eau de Cologne Spray from Demeter. It gives the ultimate escape into blissfulness.

Barbados Cherry shrub

Barbados Cherry was created in contrast to Maraschino Cherry by Demeter.

Fragrance Notes:
Cherry

Barbados Cherry can be purchased in an eau de cologne spray (30ml), purse spray (15ml), splash (15ml) and in several body products (baths, lotions, oil).

Barbados Cherry launched in 2011.

Fragrance Review

                                                   KIORI PERFUME OIL
A BLEND OF SCENTS & THE ARTS

I discovered a natural perfume while doing research on the internet. I was struck by one of the ingredients listed and that was "dark vanilla". I am totally in love with the scent of vanilla on so many levels but "dark vanilla" peaked my interest, so I wanted to know more.

KIORI PERFUME OIL is the name of it and as I read more, it was founded by Lisa Wallos and her brother, David Cantor. It was such a pleasure for me to have a brief conversation with Lisa via email about our connection with ballet. You see, Lisa studied classical ballet at the School of American Ballet in New York City.

The birth of KIORI NATURAL PERFUME OIL became a reality when Lisa saw the prima ballerina in the troop applying fragrances of their own.

I studied ballet at Boitsov Classical Ballet in Chicago when I was much older but the passion of this beautiful art still stays with me. It truly becomes a beautiful performance when the cast is dressed in costume. I remember particularly loving 'character dancing'. It was a time I could express myself a little more and be free to wear makeup and fragrances that coincided with the costume I was wearing.

Lisa gladly accepted my request for a sample of KIORI. While waiting to receive my sample, I began to imagine what could the scent of KIORI represent.

To me, I thought of light and airy with a hint of spicy oriental vanilla or maybe a powdery mixture of white floral that reminds of me of the world famous romantic ballet- Swan Lake.

Swan Lake (Royal Opera House)

Shortly thereafter, I received my package. First of all, I must say the packaging is absolutely beautiful. I got a chic and elegant box that slides open from one end to reveal a satin material inside which is perfectly layered on the box that reveals an opening to see the bottle of KIORI.

Lisa was too nice to me. All I wanted was the 1/2 sample vial but instead I got the 1/8 ounce. Inside the box is an pretty silk fuchsia colored ribbon. When gently pulled up helps release the bottle for easy access.

The 1/4 ounce and 1/8 ounce bottles are in the form of a roll-on and when I put it on my wrist, I immediately didn't think of a ballet but more of a gala!

KIORI is the perfect fragrance to wear to The Met Gala. The extravagant annual fundraising gala that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York.

I took another sniff and I said, "Bravo!" KIORI NATURAL PERFUME OIL is captivating and it is created with so much depth. Its showered with blossoms with a sweet and engaging scent that will sweep you off your feet.

I love the undertones of dark vanilla and patchouli that commend attention and that is needed in a performance.

KIORI is a beautiful asset to the gorgeous gowns worn by the celebrities at the Met Gala. I immediately thought of singer, Rihanna with her choice of costume for The Met Gala 2015.

Rihanna at The Met Gala 2015

Rihanna's costume was described as imperial yellow, fur trimmed cape and it was created by Guo Pei who refers to the costume as "Chinese Couture".

KIORI would accompany Rihanna's costume so perfectly due to its soft Oriental aroma. By the way I only rolled my wrist with KIORI once and it lasted until the next morning.

Usually a natural fragrance will not last as long but KIORI defies the norm because a little goes a long ways. KIORI allows you to savor the moment, be free and to enjoy being a woman.

KIORI NATURAL PERFUME OIL created by Lisa Wallos is still creating beauty in the performing arts of perfumery.

FRAGRANCE NOTES:
KIORI is a 100% vegan Oriental Vanilla fragrance for women and men. Handcrafted with pure perfume, resins and essential oils. Composed of dark vanilla, patchouli and floral in a base of jojoba oil.

A Fable through Fragrance

New Fragrance Launch

Press Release

                              Les Absolus by Annick Goutal
                                         Inspired by a famous fable

A scent may capture a thousand stories or invoke a myriad memories, but for their latest and most exclusive collection for Harrods, Annick Goutal has just one story at its heart. Paying homage to the purity and singularity of each precious hero ingredient, the Amber, the Vanilla bean, the Oud wood, Les Absolus is a trilogy of stunning Oriental scents, each weaving their own scentscape for the wearer.

For perfumers Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen, the hypnotic pull from these ingredients started with the humble Vanilla bean as reimagined in Vanille Charnelle. Picturing a milky bath infused with Vanilla beans, they took it in its natural form, earthy and woody, far removed from its over-sweetened synthetic counterpart, adding a twist of pepper to pique at its mystery, ylang-ylang for its opulence, then teasing in hints of tonka bean, vetiver and white musk. It's Vanilla - but not as we know it.

Enhancing the allure of the collection, comes the Ambre Sauvage. Harvested from the imagination of the perfumers, Amber as a note exists only in dreams, unable to produce an aroma in raw form. One of the most interpreted scents in the history of perfumery, sensual incarnations of resin and patchouli are its heart giving an often aphrodisiac effect. Putting their own spin on the note, the perfumers create pure alchemy with a heady synergy of pink peppercorns, Iris and styrax - its many contrasts unravelling exquisitely with the warmth from the skin.

And, no collection would be complete without a smouldering Oud. Taking inspiration from the fabled One Thousand And One Nights comes 1001 Ouds - a modern interpretation of the ancient traditions and rituals of the wood. Harmoniously weaving in exotic notes of rose, papyrus and myrrh, it’s at once mesmerizing, lingering on into the night.

Each precious scent is captured in a new and refined fragrance bottle, designed exclusively for the collection - a must for your dressing table.

1001 OUDS Eau de Parfum
Fragrance Notes:

A harmony of rose, papyrus, and myrrh infuses the wearer from head to toe. Oud is present in all of its authenticity, beating like a heart at the core of this fragrance. It fuses with the rose, is rounded out by the gaiac wood, vaporises with a touch of birch, and bites with a hint of pepper.

VANILLE CHARNELLE Eau de Parfum
Fragrance Notes:

A mix of pepper and ylang-ylang creates a mystery in the top notes of this opulent fragrance. The heart notes plunge the vanilla into tonka bean and white musk, while a hint of vetiver adds dimension to the olfactory story. This and vanilla absolute, again as always: intriguing, captivating, the source of obsession.

AMBRE SAUVAGE Eau de Parfum
Fragrance Notes:

This fragrance begins with notes of patchouli and delicate amber. Pink peppercorn and lavender have been chosen for their icy, cooling effects. In contrast the base notes are soft iris and warming vanilla.

Shop the collection below - exclusively at Harrodswww.harrods.com

Editor's note: I look forward to experiencing this collection inspired by the book 'One Thousand and One Nights' written by Mr. Muhsin Mahdi 1926-2007.

When I do experience this collection by wearing it and taking in the story behind the scents, I will write a review on this already well received fragrance launch of Les Absolus d' Annick.

Summer Fragrance Feature
Press Release

                          Jasmine in July

Experience authentic jasmine in Ayala's enticing perfumes

Have you ever smelled jasmine? If you haven't, allow me to try and describe it for you:

Jasmine is as dewy as dawn itself, as sultry as a humid summer night. It's the first rays of sun through your bedroom window, and as dark as an insomniac's never-ending night. It's the sunny honeybee and at the same time a grey, dusty moth. Jasmine's elusive blossoms correspond to Luna, the moon, yet are able to create a solar energy within a dark, brooding perfume. Jasmine is associated with the sign of Cancer that is in rule most of July, and which is the only zodiac sign that is ruled by the moon. And also, this is partly the time of the year when it is harvested for perfumery.

In honor of one of the most important perfumery raw materials, I've ran a series of articles on SmellyBlog this July, beginning with the article "Jasmine: Fragrant Stars", where you can learn more about jasmine's history, chemical composition and its versatile fragrant applications in perfumery and flavoring, the famous of all being jasmine tea, of course, and experimented with baking exotic pastries (Apricot & Jasmine Tea Cake, anyone?) using this tea to bring the intoxicating aroma of jasmine to your dessert repertoire. And of course, these elegant fragrant treats are best shared with family and friends while enjoying the garden or patio.

  1. Celebrate  jasmine this summer with Yasmin perfume - a luscious, true jasmine soliflore that shows the facets of jasmine from dawn to dusk. It has a lovely label with art-nouveau-style jasmine botanical illustration. $18.00 USD/CAN (sample)

  2. ArbitRary is our most popular masculine fragrance. Jasmine acts as a catalyst for the vibrant basil and lime which meld with a rather musky and earthy base of oak moss, patchouli and hay. The result is a long-lasting Citrus Frantasy. If you're too hot this summer, this will make you feel like you're wearing a crisp linen white shirt all day long. Enjoy! $18.00 USD/CAN (sample)

  3. Fetish combines the tropical Sambac jasmine with citrus bergamot, grapefruit and lemongrass. The unusual addition of fir and vanilla absolutes make it a long-lasting Citrus-Gourmand fragrance that will hold your interest for longer than is usual for this genre.  $18.00 USD/CAN (sample)

  4. Tamya is one of the prettiest scents in my collection: combining delicate and delicious notes of jasmine sambac, ylang ylang, cassis, bluebells and crocus, white musk, vanilla and cedar. All proceeds from this perfume go towards my autistic daughter's trust fund to save up for her future education and speech therapy. It was also featured on VerdantFaerie.com this week!  $18.00 USD/CAN (sample)

 5.  Jasmine reigns as the king of spice in Épice Sauvage, our classical spicy oriental. This fragrance is all about honey, cedar and musk, and blooms beautifully in the heat, and a hint of jasmine to make it über-sexy! $48.00 USD/CAN mini eau de parfum

 6.  Charisma perfume is stimulating yet exotic, fresh yet sensual. It's this rich dichotomy that brings out our most alluring, charismatic qualities. Charisma smells fantastic, with jasmine green tea accord, refreshing bergamot, sandalwood, agar wood and tonka bean. One of the rare perfumes that are still offered in our signature flacons parfum extrait.  $18.00 USD/CAN (sample)

 7.  Marrying jasmine with the incense notes of sandalwood and frankincense, Moon Breath is simultaneously meditative and sensual. I originally made it for meditation and to anoint candles and for meditation. A great way to experience this scent: place a tiny amount at the base of each palm, cup your hands over your  and inhale slowly and deeply...  $18.00 USD/CAN (sample)

 8.  Gigi is a nocturnal fantasy that heavily relies on Jasmine Sambac. I find the two very similar - dewy, tea-like, delicate yet intense. Perfect for a humid summer's night! $18.00 USD/CAN (sample)

9. Charisma  is a jasmine green tea blend sprinkled with golden osmanthus and accompanied by my favorite herbs ever: lemon verbena and spearmint, both organic. This month I was fortunate to have my mom visit from Israel and help me blend a new batch of Charisma Tea, with newly harvested lemon verbena from my home village!  $29.00 USD/CAN

10. Megumi Anointing Body Oil with Vetiver & Jasmine, emollient Rice Bran Oil and skin-cell regenerating squalene. It will leave your skin smoothly nourished and adorned with a beautiful jasmine perfume.  $29.00 USD/CAN

                                                       Clique by Roble'
A Chef's Haute Gourmand Fragrance Recipe

I was invited to New York a year ago by beautypress.com to view an original and unique fragrance designed by a chef. Not just any chef but Celebrity Chef Roble' Ali, owner of the catering company Roble' & Co. in New York and his cult following reality show, Chef Roble' & Co on the cable network Bravo (NBC).

Unfortunately, I could not go to New York for this golden opportunity but I got a second chance to view a creation in perfumery first ever by a chef that displays several mouthwatering menu courses in a fragrance thanks to www.scentbird.com for their generosity in sending me Clique by Roble' in their chic reusable case.

Clique by Roble' is an eau de parfum that highlights ingredients from Chef Roble's signature recipes.

This fragrance can be enjoyed not just by the lucky few whom enjoyed delicious cuisines by Chef Roble' & Co, but Clique by Roble' was designed with Firmenich Senior Perfumer, Frank Voelkl for over a year to capture the perfect balance of scents from his favorite culinary creations according to Chef Roble' for all to enjoy wearing!
Chef Roble' Ali

Well, in my opinion this "Fragrance Recipe" is the peak of perfection and I give you fair warning, the scent will enhance your taste bud by a 100% capacity!

So, the question is how do you take a cuisine of favorite recipes like a "Chupacabra" cocktail which incorporates a taste of citrus and a "French Toast Crunch Dessert" that is a sensuous dessert into a fragrance?

First it takes a great perfumer like Frank Voelkl and a top chef to brainstorm an innovation that gives a gourmand scent new meaning.

Clique by Roble' tops off with blood orange and a zesty chipotle pepper. The "Fragrance Recipe" is starting with the "Chupacabra" cocktail. It reveals the continuous citrus scent of lime. As with any fragrance, floral scents are added and this scent comes with the heady scent of jasmine for the middle note along with the sweetness of violet, tuberose and iris that captures the aroma of the "French Toast Crunch Dessert".
French Toast Crunch Dessert

My personal weakness is desserts, so I read the recipe of the "French Toast Crunch Dessert" and fell in love with the ingredients. I thought of it as an upscale cereal with the decadence of spicy cinnamon and the gourmand flavor of honey, chocolate and powdered sugar as the base in this fragrance.

Clique by Roble' is sweet but it is not a sickly sugary scent that would give you a toothache just by smelling it. It is a fragrance for sophisticated women and men who appreciates presentation in a fine fragrance that includes the best of both worlds and that is cuisine and scent.

I truly enjoyed wearing this scent especially in the summer. On me, the scent lasted so much longer than I think it would in cooler temperatures simply because of the notes involved.

For me, it lasted seven hours and the scent stayed true without much diminishing of silliage which means the trail of scent left behind by a perfume.

Gourmands are a very popular fragrance industry because it is based on edible notes such as vanilla, spices, honey and chocolate just to name a few. But because this is not your ordinary gourmand scent-its based on a recipe, a"fragrance recipe" that gives it more of a combination of cocktail and dessert and not simply just a dessert or sweet (edible).

Clique by Roble is an eau de parfum and rightly so. It is considered a more expensive fragrance due to its higher amount of aromatic compound. However, I was shockingly surprised that this fragrance is priced only at $59.50 USD available on Amazon and $53.35 USD on evine.com.

This new and refreshing idea in perfumery is revolutionary because it combines the culinary arts with the art of perfumery. I look for innovation in perfumery  that tells a story about the scent. I must say that Clique by Roble' fits the description perfectly.

Clique by Roble' from Brands With Purpose launched in 2014.

Disclosure: Clique by Roble' was given to me as a partnership with www.scentbird.com

Fragrance Layering

Fragrance Art

                                            THE ART OF FRAGRANCE LAYERING
                                                                        With
                                                          L'Artisan Parfumeur

I find it a privilege and a honor to wear a fine fragrance. It is a honor to wear a scent that is constructed with fine ingredients and a constructed with a theme/story behind the making of the scent.

Now, I am speaking of wearing just one fragrance with these sentiments but wearing two fragrances at the same time, now that is 'Art of Fragrance Layering'.

Recently, I was looking for a few perfume samples that I could wear on June 21st, the first day of summer that would represent floral, summery, French and dreamy.

My plastic cubicle is full of perfume samples. So, I thought I play a little game by closing my eyes and reaching into the cubicle for the first sample I could reach.

To my utter surprise, I grab the sample that I really wanted. It is indeed floral, summery, dreamy and it was made in France.

I thought well since my luck was good on the first try, why not grab another sample and see what happens.

I closed my eyes and reached inside the cubicle and this time I grab a sample that was completely different than the first.

This time, the fragrance was more intense, spicy and one of the ingredients is ancient.

Guess what, it was composed by the same French perfumery.

These two fascinating fragrances are from the house of L'Artisan Parfumeur. A perfume house known for their unique and globally recognized scents all created by several Master Perfumers.

The first sample I grabbed from the cubicle was Mimosa Pour Moi Eau de Toilette. This scent is a delicate floral depiction of the mimosa tree and it was composed by Anne Flipo for women (in my estimation).

The description of Mimosa Pour Moi is described by L'Artisan Parfumeur to portray lying under a tree with highly fragrant yellow flowers on the French Riveria.

What I love about this fragrance is its exact parrellel to the mimosa tree with a creamy smell dipped with vanilla and a deepness with blackcurrant bud.

I put on my right and left wrists two drops of Mimosa Pour Moi.

The second sample I grab from the cubicle was AL Oudh Eau de Parfum. This fragrance is spicy and made with Arabian wood which is another word for "Oudh".

AL Oudh Eau de Parfum is rich with a smoky scent softened by orange blossom and rose. The incredible Master Perfumer for AL Oudh Eau de Parfum is Betrand Duchaufour for women and men.

I put on my right and left writes two drops of AL Oudh.

I waited for about three minutes and then I took a sniff.

My first word was, "wow! I complete and beautiful fusion of sweet, woody and floral wrapped together that stayed on my wrists for more than 10 hours.

I had to come up with a name for this great experiement with 'The Art of Fragrance Layering'.
I called it Mimoudh Eau de Parfum. its Mimosa Pour Moi Eau de Toilette + Al Oudh Eau de Parfum. My creation of Mimoudh Eau de Parfum is for women and men.

This was a tremendous moment for me because I usually do not layer my fragrances but having both scents from the same perfumery gives me a profound respect for 'The Art of Fragrance Layering'.

If you are familiar with Jo Malone fragrance collection, that luscious and gorgeous scents are designed to compliment each other. In fact, they highly recommend it!

Did L'Artisan Parfumeur design this master plan of fragrance layering? I am sure they would not mind if you do but because the selection of perfumers are so well skilled and accomplished that it is almost without a doubt each fragrance composed by this perfumery would compliment the other.

The ultimate experience with fragrances is discovering your own way of wearing it. No person's scent will smell the same on another person. So, it is important to try and have fun with it. I bet you have 'The Art of Fragrance Layering' right in your cubicle, too.
