COCONUT MILK PARFUM
A Scent of Tropical Heaven

If you live in the Midwest such as I do, reality has set in and the days of warm weather, I mean really warm weather is now the past. I love the change of the season and to be honest the extremely hot weather this summer was too much for me to handle.

However those few days this summer that came with a glimpse of breeze made up for those far too many humid moments.

It easy for me snuggle under a blanket and remember those more bareable warm days with tropical thoughts in a place filled with scents and serene visions.

I was given a wonderful sample of COCONUT MILK PARFUM from the Perfect Perfume collection by perfumer, Sarah Horowitz at the Artisan Fragrance Salon in San Francisco.

COCONUT MILK immediately blew me away with its all so real coconut. It is so real that you can actually drink it. It is a true to the core and it has an underlining amount of almond. it is just the right amount to bring the tropics into your living room.

It reminds me of a smoothie. Lush, thick and the sillage lasts for many hours.

What I love about the generosity of Sarah Horowitz Parfums is that COCONUT MILK and other fragrances can be purchased in so many options such as a Eau de Parfum, pure oil, body lotion, body and massage oil, bath & shower gel and more.

I am a great fan of coconut milk! So to have a fragrance that I can wear as much as I love the drink is a win-win situation.

COCONUT MILK is not filled with a lot of notes but the notes in it are truly important and with Sarah talent she composes just the right about of accord(s) to take a complicated fruit to design into a luscious and vibrant scent.

I open the gate to the summer season with a fragrance that was inspired by a novel set in the early twentieth century.

It is a story about hope, courage and healing and in order to get these promises one must be brave and open the gate with the key.

The key to life.

Every time I read the book and watch the adapted television versions, I imagine how it must feel to finally see the garden transform into a lush, breathing and color place full of hope, courage and healing.

Of course, this is a fictional story but you can always breath the essences of those amazing scents flowing through the air all day and night if you are Mandy Aftel who creates these aspiring scents in her boutique.

I had this journey when I came across a beautiful spring and summer fragrance by Aftelier Perfumes.

SECRET GARDEN, the fragrance is inspired by the book, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

As I opened my sample of SECRET GARDEN Eau de Parfum Spray, I began to realize what it felt like to open up a whole new world of adventure captured by the lavish living organisms that keep us coming back for more adventure.

I entered the SECRET GARDEN Eau de Parfum and I was welcomed by the cluster of roses, the sweetness of the nectar succumbed by the honey bees and the richness of raspberries that leaves the dark red stain on the lips.

Suddenly I felt like the girl in the book, I was awaken and alive and the spellbinding scent of jasmine sambac swept me off my feet like the cascading birds in the garden as they landed on the posts of the garden gate.

                  FRAGRANCE NOMINEES
                 A GRAND CELEBRATION

On December 19, 2011, The Fragrance Foundation announced that it has received 36 "Indie" entries representing 30 brands for the 2012 "Indie" FIFI Award category.
The Fragrance Foundation is in partnership with Elements Showcase New York honoring the fragrance industry's best achievers for niche and natural perfumes.

The "INDIE" category represents men's, women's or shared fragrances that was only represented in 2011 by only two "INDIE" perfumers, but with the success and attention garnered by 2011 achievers in the "INDIE" category, the 2012 nominees are eager to represent that #1 spot of "BEST IN INDIE" for 2012.

The eagerly anticipated award presentation will take place on January 30th at the Elements Showcase in a ceremony honoring five finalists and announcing the winner.

The winner is not only honored with a title and FIFI Award but due the generosity of GIVAUDAN ( a global leader in the fragrance and flavour industry) will provide a check to the winner in the amount of $10,000!

The Elements Showcase, the "curated showcase" is the brainchild of Ulrich Lang, Frederick Bouchardy and Jeff Lawson which has given unknown and emerging talented perfumers and visionaries an opportunity to literally showcase their products in an upscale atmosphere right in the midst of the bustling city of New York.

Elements Showcase not only provide perfumes a home to come to but personal care and home ambiance products are represented.

Bouchardy, Lawson and Lang brilliantly combined their passion for fragrances and business intuitive to establish the "Indie" FIFI Award Ceremony plus an Opening Night Reception. The Element Showcase 2012 is not just for one day. It will be open on Tuesday, Jan 31st, too!

To understand the fragrance business on must be involved in it. Mr. Lang established Ulrich Lang New York in 2003. While Mr. Bouchardy created Joya (which means "jewel" in Spanish) in 2004. Lastly but not least, Mr. Lawson shows his amazing talent as Art Fair Producer with the Elements Showcase who conceived this unique idea of an exhibition.

This exciting and much needed base for natural and niche fragrances is a dream come true. It brings hope and understanding to this category of visionaries who have far too often been overlooked.

I look forward to reporting on Elements Showcase 2012 and bringing the good news.

Fragrance Belles-Lettres Est 2009 CHICAGO

The word "belles lettres" is a French phrase meaning "beautiful or "fine writing. Since this is a term to describe a category of writing, this will pertain to my passion about fragrances. I will review niche,natural, artisan and designer perfumes from all over the world. I write with passion but will use my journalistic skills that I obtained in college. Not only will I feature fragrances but I will feature new books on fragrances/perfumes, fragrance events and interview authors and perfumers.

I hope you take this journey with me and begin your own passion for the ART OF PERFUMERY!
