August Doussan hired a young chemist named, J.H. Tindel who had learned perfumery in Europe. Doussan and Tindel marketed their secret formula that become highly successful, Eau de Cologne and other scents that were traditional brought from Europe and the Orient. Years later, Doussan's retired and passed it onto Tindel. He eventually changed the name to the French Perfume Company.
