William Henry Penhaligon was an alchemist who was inspired by unlikely places and he used his talent to create some of the most exclusive scents for clients that only wanted the best.
Mr. Penhaligon was born in Penzance and then moved to London in the late 1860's He was inspired by entrepreneurship, so he founded a barbershop on Jermyn Street in London. He was thought to be witty and eccentric but very creative. He turned his passion for the Art of Perfumery by becoming a perfumer to the elite.
Hamman Bouquet was the first fragrance created by William Penhaligon in 1872 which started a dynasty for him. By the end of Queen Victoria's reign, William Henry Penhaligon had been appointed Barber and Perfumer to the Royal court. It has been over 135 years and the House of Penhaligon are proud to hold Warrants from The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh.
