In Ancient Egypt the act of making perfume was an art form. The perfumers were considered to be artists and the exquisite fragrances were created by men an women. This artistic fashion and demonstrations have been painted and written on the walls and tombs in Petosiris.
Perfume was mainly for the elite classes until the golden age. Kings used it because they believed to be created as divine living gods and the gods favoured fragrances and perfumes. High officials during ceremonies were anointed with perfume when they were appointed to an office to call the favour of the gods.
