                                                 Jo Malone: My Story
The Book of Jo Malone Fragrance Collection Empire & Her Personal Life

"Known around the world for her eponymous brand of fragrances and now her brand-new venture Jo Loves (soon to debut in the US), Jo Malone tells the remarkable and inspiring story of her rise from humble beginnings to beloved business success.

Jo Malone began her international fragrance and scented candle business in 1983 from her kitchen, where she made bath oils as thank-you gifts for her facial clients. She opened her first store in London in 1994, and in 1999 she sold the Jo Malone London brand to Estee Lauder Companies. Recently, she launched a new brand, Jo Loves, igniting the excitement of fashion and beauty converts all over the world.

Raised in government-subsidized housing in Kent in the early 1960s, Jo Malone left school as a teenager to care for her mother after she had a stroke. Jo had not been successful in school because of her dyslexia, but she had the ability to see and feel everything in scent. Her at-home beauty business and hand-made products became popular, and word of her talent spread until an international brand was born. After the sale of her company and the birth of her son, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment in New York. Thus began the second chapter of her life, and in this memoir, Jo tells her full amazing and inspiring person."

Who is Jo Malone?
The brand Jo Malone London is a British fragrance house known for elegant scents that gives a unique twist to a fragrance once is is paired with another fragrance from the collection.

Jo Malone, the perfume maker and cosmetic mogul no longer owns the company.

It was sold to The Estee Lauder Companies in 1999. It's been rumored that is was sold for 5 million Euros.

Since that time, Jo Malone has created a second line named, "Jo Loves" in 2011 in the UK but now it serves customers in the United States.

Jo Malone comes from humble beginnings to become an extraordinary achiever in the fragrance industry. Her strength carried her when she was struck with breast cancer and how she succeeded through that very difficult time.

Jo Malone: My Story is a book I will be reading and from its description to me indicates that success is great but have the strength and tenacity to overcome obstacles in life is the greatest success of all.

PRESS RELEASE

                                    PERFUME: A CENTURY OF SCENTS

I’m delighted to announce the publication of my first book, Perfume: A Century of Scent. You'll also notice that it’s not bearing the name of Odette. Rest assured that Odette’s not going anywhere – I am she – it’s rather that Lizzie Ostrom (also me) is coming out as an author.
The book tells the incredible stories of 100 perfumes in all their fragrant glory – with ten lovingly chosen scents for each decade of the twentieth century.
Signature scents and now lost masterpieces; the visionaries who conceived them; the wild and wonderful campaigns that launched them; the women and men who wore them – every perfume has a tale to tell. Join me on an olfactory adventure as I explore the trends and crazes that have shaped the way we’ve spritzed.
Perfume: A Century of Scents will be published in the UK in hardback on Thursday October 22nd by Hutchinson.

New Niche Perfumery

SHAY &  BLUE PERFUMERY OF LONDON
                                  Brings Realization to Perfumery

Former  executive to Chanel and Jo Malone of London brands has established his own fragrance line in London.

Mr. Dom De Vetta founder of Blue & Shay Perfumery created a fragrance line of six scents that is an inspiration of the great classic perfumes of old.

This could not have been possible without a  nose and with this being said, Mr. De Vetta found one of the best in the industry. Ms. Julie Masse', a young and pretty lady who created these inspirational classic perfumes using real flowers! These six scents also are composed with fruits and spices.

SHAY & BLUE PERFUMERY was just established in 2012 and it houses so many products such as candles made from the finest wax and gift collections for men, women and both.

The blue stripped boxes packaging truly is a representation of elegance, warmth and class.

Mr. De Vetta spared no expense in creating a world class perfumery.

This is just an announcement but I plan on writing a review of all six fragrances of Atropa Belladonna, Blood Oranges, Amber Rose, Sicilian Limes, Suffolk Lavender and Almond Cucumber.

I look forward to hearing more from SHAY & BLUE and Welcome to the world of niche perfumery.

ANTHONY & CLEOPATRA: A LOVE AFFAIR

           Radiantly Romantic Eau de Parfum

                    The Fragrance of Ancient Love

Anthony and Cleopatra are among the most famous couples in history. Unfortunately their story ended tragically but the legacy of love between Anthony and Cleopatra lives on.

Cleopatra was an Egyptian queen who married Marc Anthony (Latin: Marcus Antonius) after Julius Caesar was assassinated.

Cleopatra was born in Alexandra, Egypt and Marc Anthony was born in Rome, Roman Republic. Both from two different worlds but yet their love for one another is immortal.

To carry on this type of love, means to express it creatively in a way that everyone can understand it and doing it the way it would have been appreciated in Ancient Egypt.

The act of making perfume was considered an art form in Ancient Egypt. The craftsperson was both women and men with perfume being mainly for the elite classes typically used by Kings and in this case, a Queen. Who was not only beautiful but showered herself in aromas that cast a spell on Marc Anthony.

Daniel Vaudd
Daniel Vaudd (pronounced ‘vode’); Perfumer, Cosmetic Scientist and owner of House of Vaudd in London, UK brilliantly composed RADIANTLY ROMANTIC EAU DE PARFUM  inspired by the great romance of Queen Cleopatra and Marc Anthony. The essence of this fragrance “captures the radiance of the Egyptian sun and Cleopatra’s love affair with Rome.”

Mr. Vaudd exquisitely includes high-grade ingredients that represent the birthplace of Marc Anthony with the absolutes that are sensual, soft and evoke the strengths of Cleopatra’s passion into a pale pink base that radiates the foundation of LOVE.

This soft scent has endurance to fit the quality of leadership from General of the Roman Army to the last pharaoh of Egypt that conquered two worlds (Egypt and Rome) with her persuasive nature and enchantress beauty.

RADIANTLY ROMANTIC is truly fit for the royal woman in your life. It features regal notes of, bergamot, neroli, French tarragon oil, Egyptian jasmine absolute, rose absolute, orange blossom, Indonesian tuberose essence, pink musk, violet, vetiver, patchouli, chypre, green oakmoss extract, benzoin resin and French black truffle oil.

The swirl of floral is abundantly clear when first applied. It has a hypnotic and dreamy effect that describes Queen Cleopatra’s distinctiveness that surrounded Marc Anthony with a charm that lasted for a lifetime.

Daniel Vaudd truly impressed me with his creation of RADIANTLY ROMANTIC EAU DE PARFUM that I had to learn more about him. How he became such a successful perfumer and I find out that Mr. Vaudd was almost close to becoming a Neurologist!

THE INTERVIEW

Daniel where were you born?

I spent my formative years on several Caribbean islands – tropical rain forests, exotic flora, jewel-like seas and open skies, all influenced my creative mind; I was born on the Dutch colony island – Saint Eustatius.

What were your favourite subject(s) in school?

I found biology and chemistry the most fascinating of subjects when I was younger. Both proved invaluable to my becoming an aesthetician and perfumer; although I came awfully close to becoming a Neurologist (to follow in the foot-steps of my eldest brother).

When did you decide to make perfumery a career?

Scent has always been a predominant aspect of my life – it is the medium in which I house memories; most people have albums – I have shelves with hundreds of vials of scent. I made perfumery a career when I first found out that a career in perfumery was even possible.

Roja Dove
Daniel, I understand that you worked with Roja Dove! How did this happen?

I remember this clearly. I was visiting his perfumery to sample a particular scent by Christophe Laudamiel which I was intrigued by. Roja happened to be in the perfumery at the very same time. He came over and we begun conversing. During the course of the conversation, he introduced a bottle of Caron’s Tabac Blond – which moved me to tears. Perhaps then he understood my affinity with scent, as, soon after, he offered me the opportunity to become his personal researcher for the completion of his book – Essence of Perfume.

What is it about Roja that you most admire?

I have met no one more articulate or eloquent in the communication of perfume; his knowledge of perfumery is exceptional.

RADIANTLY ROMANTIC EAU DE PARFUM is based on inspiration of the great romance between Queen Cleopatra and Mark Anthony. Do you study Ancient Egyptian history, Daniel?

It was required to research the story of Mark and Cleopatra; particularly the latter. The Ptolemaic dynasty was a truly fascinating one. The idea of ‘romance’ as we know it today – was a luxury afforded by few, and even fewer royals. Yet within the social context, Cleopatra afforded both romance and power. Radiantly Romantic captures her strength, passion and acute femininity. By formatting the perfume in a Scented Amphorae pendant and Scented hand fan (available June 2011), I hope to stay true to an ancient civilization which understood the power, strength and seduction of perfume.

Daniel, Radiantly Romantic is truly a unique and beautiful fragrance! How closely is it made to the perfumes made in Ancient Egypt?

Firstly, Thank You.
It may be surprising to know that the ‘method of creating’ and ‘format’ of perfume has not changed much over millennia; early perfumes were almost exclusively oil, wax or resin based (apposed to alcohol). What has changed is the social contexts and connotations of ‘who’ wears perfume and ‘how’. With exception of few ingredients, this scent could, in my opinion, be easily deciphered by an Egyptian alchemist; who were also often priests/priestesses.

I am curious about one fragrant ingredient in Radiantly Romance and that is the French Black Truffle oil. Can you explain a little bit about it?

I believe a true perfume must always offer something unique – something that has never been experienced before. In an industry where new fragrances are copies of other ‘commercially’ successful fragrances, it was important to me to create something beautiful but exceptional.

Black Truffle Oil and Pink Musk do just that. Black Truffle Oil adds a new type of depth to the base without allowing the perfume to feel heavy, masculine or vulgar. Pink Musk is used in copious amount for its light ‘mist-like’ effect; creating a perfume that is seamless and has no perceivable end.

Radiantly Romance has a beautiful light pink tint. Daniel was this added to enhance the "mood of romance?

The colour is derived from one of the ingredients used within the perfume. I was cognizant that it would add to the mood of romance I intend the perfume to create.

Lastly, I cannot wait to see more creations from you, Daniel! Are you currently working on a new fragrance, now?

I am sure there will be new creations; but like paint to a canvas, it takes time to create a work of art.
