Fragrance Review

                           PINK HAZE EAU DE PARFUM
                                            Nature in the New York

I have a neighbor who lives across the street who had a cherry blossom tree imported from Japan many years ago. This tree is located in the front of the house.

When I moved to this community, that was the first house I noticed and when I moved in, I introduced myself to the family and told them that I am a fragrance editor. They immediately told me how they decided to import a cherry blossom tree and why.

This wonderful family gave me an open invitation to pick blossoms from the tree anytime I wanted.

The scent of cherry blossom is one of the sweetest and most fruitful plant I have ever sniffed. It brings life to the soul and for me it enhances my senses after a few minutes of smelling it.

I would recommend everyone to have a cherry blossom tree, especially in a metropolitan city like Chicago.

Recently, I was given a sample of PINK HAZE EAU DE PARFUM by Maria McElroy, one of the perfumers and co-founder of House of Cherry Bomb.

Maria's partner and co-founder/perfumer, Alexis Karl created Pink Haze for the PLP Perfume Project in 2014.
Brooklyn, New York

Pink Haze is a floral fragrance for women and men that is a Brooklyn (New York) inspired parfum. McElroy and Karl who are independent-perfumers located in Brooklyn composed Pink Haze with the dedication and love for their beloved city and the elements that surrounds one of the largest most populated cities in the United States.

Pink Haze is heady and gives a powerful aroma much like the gardenia. Its aroma is maintained by not overpowering with its powder-like sillage that lasted well over seven hours.

It is grounded and earthy just like what Brooklyn represents with its lined streets of store buildings and subways of trains that go to every part of the city and beyond.

I truly was captured by the scent and the theme of Pink Haze. It reminded me of Chicago and its overly ornate buildings that have stood the test of time and beauty in the spring and summer with colorful flowers and glossy green-leaf plants all down North Michigan Avenue.

Truly Pink Haze represents a beautiful atmospher of the cherry blossom. If you are not lucky enough to move into a community with a neighbor who has a cherry blossom tree in front of their house or you are not in Japan or Washington, DC, then I would recommend Pink Haze Eau de Parfum.

It gives new meaning to leaving in the city. It gives beauty, warmth and a vibrate attribute to nature.

Fragrance Review

                                             VANILLA FLASH
                                         The Sophisticated Scent

If you have been reading my articles for awhile, you know that I am a huge lover of the vanilla scent. It can be just the one vanilla note or a blend of notes with vanilla-as long as I can get a whiff of vanilla, then I considered that to be a great accomplishment.

Many times vanilla blended with other fragrance notes, can become hidden due to the soft and sweet scent of vanilla but there is a new vanilla fragrance that was created to be worn as an adult.

VANILLA FLASH EAU DE PARFUM by Tauerville aka Andy Tauer. Andy Tauer, a FiFi Award winning perfumer did not want a super sweet vanilla that resembled a gourmand but a more spicy, earthy and robust...perhaps even a savory scent.

VANILLA FLASH EAU DE PARFUM is the fragrance for adults who understand the power of wanting to smell sophisticated yet still enjoy the scent of vanilla, the world's most popular scent in perfumes.

Mr. Tauer is a genius when it comes to composing scents that are truly realistic yet he does not take away the fun and excitement that goes with the imagination of what a masterfully skilled scent interpretates.

Fragrance notes: spices, vanilla bourbon, rose , patchouli and tobacco.

VANILLA FLASH EAU DE PARFUM

30 ml EDP $63.00 USD
10 ml EDP $31.00 USD

Fragrance Review & Launches

                                   Provanilla
Providence Perfume Co. + Vanilla = Awesome!

I was completely thrilled to received a press release from Providence Perfume Company just a few days ago. To my surprise and utter excitement, Charna Ethier, perfumer and owner of Providence Perfume Company in Providence, Rhode Island released a new fragrance. It was not just any fragrance it is a scent that is near and dear to me.

Charna may be aware of it but the launch of Provanilla that combines the name of Providence Perfume Company + vanilla gives an innovative name and original scent of the world's most popular spice!

Provanilla is not created with just one kind of vanilla but with a full blast of five varieties of vanilla.

I am in vanilla heaven!

Provanilla consist of luscious Mexican vanilla, Madagascar vanilla, coconut pulp, white rose, balsam and myrrh.

Its an all-natural fragrance that I am positively sure will be one of the best-selling scents for Spring 2015 and beyond.

I am already going to acclaim that Provanilla is an award-winning fragrance and will go down in fragrance history as the best vanilla scent of the 21st century.

What I equally love about Charna's approach to perfumery is the most intriquing and lively marketing that goes with every fragrance she creates.

Provanilla is marketed with Pop Art that was hugely popular in the 1950's/1960's era that puts the scent of Provanilla as the center of celebration for women and men to enjoy!

As Charna said it best, "Viva la vanille"!

Provanilla Eau de Parfum

1 ounce atomizer $125.00 USD
7.5 ml travel atomizer $35.00 USD
Sample $7.00 USD

                                 Unforsaken
The Scent that Warms the Heart

Warning! If you haven't had anything to eat yet, please read the description of Unforsaken Eau de Parfum after you have eaten.

I read the incredible and delicious ingredients of Unforsaken by the house of Kerosene and my stomach started to growl with hunger.

I love to give homage to the house of Kerosene and perfumer and owner, John Pegg because it is the only few niche perfumeries in the Midwest. However, his collection of fragrances speaks for themselves.

John mentioned in his bio that since he lives in a state (Michigan) that has several months of frigid weather, he prefers warm notes such as amber.

I can identify with that being in Chicago but Unforsaken is a gourmand scent that will remind you of cheesecake with a nice glass of Chardonay wine.

The launch of Unforsaken brings in the Spring with an appetite for lush gardens in an open field laced with orange blossoms in the rain.

This scent is warm and sweet enough but it has those deeper notes that makes it compatible for women and men.

John has incredible skills that provides sexy, woody scents to a light and airy fragrance like Unforsaken that keeps you guessing on what is next by the house of Kerosene.

Unforsaken Eau de Parfum is my new spring delight and it seeks my nomination for an award!

Unforsaken Eau de Parfum
tangerine, clementine, coconut, yuzu, orange blossom, jasmine, ginger, tonka beans, benzoin, vanilla and musk.

100ml  $140.00USD

                                  BYREDO PERFUME
                                          The Art of Hair Perfume

Perfume is not just for the decollete (the neckline), inside of the wrists and ankles anymore. It is now being designed strictly for the hair. I have noticed more and more companies bringing hair into the Art of Perfumery, but this has been done many centuries ago with the start of the Ancient Egyptians females who used scented cones in their hair.

I like the idea of having a perfume created for just the hair. I remember when I was younger and experimenting with fragrances that I would spring a light and airy floral scent on my hair.

It would last for hours and I love the compliments I received from it. I had an oily scalp so the scent would immerse with the oil giving it more of what is widely used in fragrances today as Oudh (woody scent). During that time as a young girl, I didn't have any idea of Oudh but I know I loved the scent and I would spray perfume in my hair many times, especially after getting it done at the beauty salon.

Today, I can experiment with hair perfume and get ingredients that are not only scented beautifully but also good for the hair too.

One of my favorite perfumeries have launched a NEW hair perfume collection this year and it is winning the hearts of its cult followers to new aficionados to the brand.

Byredo was conceived in 2006 by Ben Gorham who grew up in Toronto, New York and Stockholm. He is of native Sweden to an Indian mother and a Canadian father.

Byredo is a modern and beautiful composition of scents from around the world where Mr. Gorham as lived and traveled.

If you are seeking a collection that will provide you  with a wealth of information through scents worldwide, I promise the house of Byredo will deliver every time.

We are introduced to three hair perfumes each different but very complimentary to each other. I am very experimental when it comes to perfumes, so I plan to layer them on at the same time. I trust the magic of Byredo!

Bal d' Afrique Hair Perfume
This scent is inspired by Paris in the late 1920's and its infatuation with African culture, music and dance.

Notes: Bergamot, lemon, neroli, African Marigold, Bucchu, Violet, Jasmin Petals, Cyclamen, Black Amber, Musk, Vetiver and Moroccan Cedarwood

Blanche Hair Perfume
This scent is based around the color of white as Mr. Gorham says, it is "pure and simple". Think of transparent without a blemish.

Notes: White Rose, Pink Pepper, Aldehyde, Violet, Neroli, Peony, Blonde Woods, Sandalwood and Musk

 Gypsy Water Hair Perfume
This scent is inspired by the scent of fresh soil, deep forests and campfires. Keeping it close to nature as possible.

Notes: Bergamot, lemon, pepper, juniper berries, incense, pine needles, orris, amber, vanilla and sandalwood

Byredo Hair Perfume includes the signature scent with a unique silicone and polymer formula to leave the hair nourished and not sticky or heavy in texture.

This collection is available at through www.luckyscent.com and www.byredo.com for $62.00 USD 75ml/2.5 fluid ounce

                                                                 THE FRAGRANCE FOUNDATION

The Highlight of the Fragrance Industry

If you did not get an invitation to attend the 87th Academy Awards, don't be upset...I did not get an invitation. Did you know that the fragrance industry have their own version of the OSCARS but it is called the FiFi Awards. Every year The Fragrance Foundation celebrate the global fragrance industry with outstanding creative achievements in the world of perfumery. Doesn't this sound just like the Academy Awards? The crowning achievement is celebrated with a lavish setting at a posh location, usually The Lincoln Center in New York. It is surrounded by the Who's Who of the perfume industry and by this I mean companies such as Coty, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Ralph Lauren and Bloomingdale's just to name a few. The Who's Who of the perfume industry are surrounded by celebrities such as Halle Berry, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Ben Affleck and so many more.

This is the day to shine but for the perfume industry that is more than 36.6 billion dollars by 2018. Globally its is worth 28.6 billion dollars. That is a lot of fragrance wafting around. If you are into celebrity scents, that is worth a whopping 30 billion dollars.

So, that is why The Fragrance Foundation is such a big deal in the perfume industry. The Fragrance Foundation was established in 1949 and during the the 1940's only three fragrances were launched.  One fragrance for women and two fragrances for men.  Did you know in 2014 there were 1,600 fragrances launched!

No wonder I stay so busy trying to review new launches!

The similarities to The Academy Awards in terms of categories for The Fragrance Foundation Awards are quite prestigious. Here are the categories for nominations in a fragrance category.

FiFi Award Trophy

Fragrance of the Year
Fragrance Hall of Fame
Packaging of the Year
Media Campaign of the Year
Interior Scents Collection of the Year
Bath & Body Line of the Year
Hall of Fame
Fragrance Celebrity of the Year
Lifetime Achievement, Perfumer
Editorial Excellence in Fragrance Coverage *
Indie Award
Perfume Extraordinaire

In 2011, the Indie category was just established for niche, artisan and natural perfumers. The indie category of perfumers finally got noticed for their achievements in perfumery and the first perfumer to be recognized and nominated was Mandy Aftel, perfumer and owner of Aftelier Perfumes with three historic nominations (Candide, Honey Blossom and Lumiere). Although Mandy Aftel did not take home the crowning FiFi Award it was a tremendous landmark for indie category.  Six Scents Series Three was the winner.

If you look at the list of categories there is an asterisk next to Editorial Excellence in Fragrance Coverage. That category is for people like myself and editors of magazines online as well as articles published in a magazine such as Vogue, Elle, W Magazine, Cosmopolitan and the like.

This is a very competitive and tight race for the best. It basically shows the amount of passion written by the writer and this is what needs to be continued in the ever-changing fragrance industry.

This would be a dream come true to win a FiFi Award in this category. I am keeping my fingers crossed with lots of prayer!

Guess what? You can attend The Fragrance Foundation Awards! You do not have to wait to receive an invitation in the mail. You can simply go to www.fragrance.org.

If you have any questions go to info@fragrance.org to get better acquainted with this organization.

The Fragrance Foundation is dedicated to serving its member companies as a resource for industry expertise, innovation and education. It is a not-for-profit organization that includes more than 82 of the world's most important corporations in the world of fragrance.

To join The Fragrance Foundation you will have to wait for the envelope because it is ONLY by invitation.

Information: Christine Baranski, actress 'The Good Wife' will host for the third year in a row the Fragrance Foundation Awards 'Finalist Breakfast' on April 10, 2015 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York.
********************************************************************************************
On June 17, 2015 The Fragrance Foundation Awards will be given out and the host of this celebration will be actor, Alec Baldwin. It will take place at Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center New York.

Note: Information on what the fragrance industry is work comes from www.kafkaequeblog.com (February 20, 2014) and information on 1600 perfumes launched in 2014 comes from www.fragrantica.com and The Fragrance Bible 2015 by Michael Edwards.
