1. Hello, Justine and thank you so much for speaking with me! Tell me what is The Scented Djinn all about?







2. Justine, I am really excited about your the new parfum, AMBER NATURAL BOTANICAL PARFUM EXTRAIT. You described it as a lush, sensual amber and The Scented Djinn's amber is dark and mysterious. What is it about amber that makes it so mysterious?



Well, I think that most amber based perfumes and somewhat sensual, dark and mysterious. Amber perfumes are well-defined, yet run the gamut of softly seductive types to the darkly sensual and "mysterious" types. The Scented Djinn's Amber, in my opinion, draws you in closer and fills your senses with warm spicy sweetness and a resinous edginess that makes you want to stay right there, breathing it in.



3. What made you decide to become a natural perfumer, Justine?



Good question! It wasn't something that happened overnight, that's for certain. For the first couple of years I refused to even call myself a perfumer, struggling with the idea that the only real perfumers in the world were trained in French perfume schools and apprenticed to famous perfumers. To a certain extent that is still a part of my life's dream -- to train in Grasse. I suppose the final decision to "be a perfumer" came about when I realized I was creating more and more complex fragrance formulations for my skin care items. I stumbled and tumbled and kind of just landed in the middle of perfumery entirely by accident.



4. I noticed in AMBER NATURAL BOTANICAL PARFUM EXTRAIT, you added Vanilla Bourbon. This is very interesting!

I haven't heard much about this ingredient. Yes, I have heard of the bourbon ingredient but with a vanilla component to it. Justine, could you elaborate a little more on this fascinating ingredient?



This particular vanilla, though marketed as Bourbon, is actually a product of Madagascar and the Comoros islands. This grouping of islands, which includes the island of Reunion formerly known as Bourbon in the Indian Ocean, is well-known for their superior terroir. There is a long and very rich history of vanilla farming on all of these islands going back to the beginning of French colonization in the early 1800's. Again, it's the soil and climate that contribute to this type of vanilla's depth of aroma and all around lushness.



5. Lastly, Justine where can we buy AMBER NATURAL BOTANICAL PARFUM EXTRAIT and what sizes(s) does it come?



It is currently for sale at Etsy (www.etsy.com/listing/60712101/amber-parfum) in the 5ml bottle, but will soon be moved from the Etsy site to Artfire (www.artfire.com/users/TheScentedDjinn). I am in the process of separating the skin care line from the perfume line (skin care on Etsy, parfum on Artfire), and building a new website featuring all of The Scented Djinn products in one place. Until then, it's a scramble :)
