"Redefining the High Life in Fragrance"

New Fragrance Review

                                   Enchanted Forest Eau de Parfum
The Most Anticipated Fragrance of 2013

The Vagabond Prince is an adventurer, a passionate explorer, a romantic dreamer. He stepped out of fairytales, you can find him in the folklore of every nation: the bravest character in a story, often foolhardy in the eyes of everyman, but still quick-witted enough to win. He travels, he fails, but he finds the strength for another fight, and he never relinquishes to anybody the mission of finding his happiness... He is a fabled symbol of human will for development. He is self-made.

Enchanted Forest is inspired by the endless sea of Russian forests and fairytales, as well as the most sensual ancient Slavic celebration named Kupala, rooted in the times of darkness, when all on the Earth knew its soul and its name (often too powerful to be uttered in vain or at all). French perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, the famous creator of fragrances for L'Artisan Parfumeur, Comme des Garçons and Penhaligon's, built Enchanted Forest around black currant, the smell and taste of which are so beloved in Russia and many other countries where it grows.

The box is lavishly decorated in golden hohloma tendrils, representing the enchanted forest. It embraces the deep blue sky with its curling branches. This sparkle from a shooting star and silhouettes of tiny night butterflies resting on its branches play little melodies on each side and easily fly into your imagination. Hohloma is so entertaining and doubtlessly magical that one twists and turns the box, caressing with fingers the different surfaces.

The other story behind Enchanted Forest Eau de Parfum comes with inspiration and creation by the highly respected and highly viewed online perfume magazine, Fragrantica.  Fragrantica owners and couple Elena Knezhevich and Zoran Knezevic chose their favorite perfumer, Bertrand Duchaufour to create the fragrance using natural ingredients. This is a loving gift from Zoran to Elena which not only symbolizes a wonderful inspirational fragrance but also the love of two people.
The incredible artwork for the bottle and the box decoration was painted by Elena.

The richness and dark notes for Enchanted Forest are as follows...

Top Notes: pink pepper, aldehydes, sweet orange (traces), flower cassis, black currant leaf, hawthorn   effects of rum and wine, rosemary and davana.

Heart Notes: black currant buds absolute (by LMR from Grasse), CO2 blackcurrant (by Floral Concept from Grasse), Russian coriander seed, honeysuckle, rose, carnation and vetiver.

Base Notes: opoponax resinoid, Siam benzoin, amber, oakmoss, fir balsam absolute, Patchouli Purecoeur, castoreum absolute, cedar notes, vanilla and musk.

Enchanted Forest by The Vagabond Prince is coming January 2013!

The INSTITUTE FOR ART AND OLFACTION will become a reality for fragrance consumers and aficionados in three months.

This institute is garnering a big following in its early stages of development.

IAO is located in Los Angeles and before its launch date in March 2013,  they have planned programs for the fragrance industry's enjoyment and educational values.

In my opinion, this is one of the best institutions at this point that offer a vast range of opportunities for beginners and veterans in the fragrance industry.

It is a much needed place for information and opportunities in the ever-growing populations of fragrance launches and events worldwide.

The IAO will be offering opportunities for grants, workshops, mentorship programs, stocked perfumers laboratory and much more!

I spoke to one of the staff members, Ms. Saskia Wilson-Brown via email to introduce myself and express my joy with the IAO.

Ms. Brown wrote me back via email with such enthusiasm and thanked me for taking the time out to express my gratitude and the fact that I offered some suggestions that would additionally be great for the IAO.

I am truly excited about the IAO and I welcome them with open arms!

If you are already bursting with excitement like myself, guess what? There is an opportunity to meet the IAO.

Yes! There will be a Meet and Greet at the Scent Bar in Los Angeles on Friday, December 14, 2012.

To get more information and bring in the Holiday cheer with the IOA go to www.artandolfaction.com

Cheers!

NEW Perfume Review

                                             COCONUT MILK PARFUM
                                                   A Scent of Tropical Heaven

If you live in the Midwest such as I do, reality has set in and the days of warm weather, I mean really warm weather is now the past. I love the change of the season and to be honest the extremely hot weather this summer was too much for me to handle.

However those few days this summer that came with a glimpse of breeze made up for those far too many humid moments.

It easy for me snuggle under a blanket and remember those more bareable warm days with tropical thoughts in a place filled with scents and serene visions.

I was given a wonderful sample of COCONUT MILK PARFUM from the Perfect Perfume collection by perfumer, Sarah Horowitz at the Artisan Fragrance Salon in San Francisco.

COCONUT MILK immediately blew me away with its all so real coconut. It is so real that you can actually drink it. It is a true to the core and it has an underlining amount of almond. it is just the right amount to bring the tropics into your living room.

It reminds me of a smoothie. Lush, thick and the sillage lasts for many hours.

What I love about the generosity of Sarah Horowitz Parfums is that COCONUT MILK and other fragrances can be purchased in so many options such as a Eau de Parfum, pure oil, body lotion, body and massage oil, bath & shower gel and more.

I am a great fan of coconut milk! So to have a fragrance that I can wear as much as I love the drink is a win-win situation.

COCONUT MILK is not filled with a lot of notes but the notes in it are truly important and with Sarah talent she composes just the right about of accord(s) to take a complicated fruit to design into a luscious and vibrant scent.

COCONUT MILK PARFUM consists of coconut accented by almond, orange blossom, gardenia, tonka bean accord, vanilla and Egyptian musk

NEW Fragrance Review

                                Artisan Fragrance Favorite Receives Awards
FLEUR de CARAMEL Eau de Parfum

When I was at the first annual ARTISAN FRAGRANCE SALON in July, I was surrounded by fabulous displays, breathtaking scents and eager smiles. None was more welcoming and inviting than Laurie Stern, natural perfumer and owner of VELVET AND SWEET PEA PURRFUMERY.

I told Laurie who I was and she made me feel like I was a huge celebrity. I could not believe the overwhelming response! What I like about Laurie is that she is so real and genuine.

Laurie told me all about her NEW creation FLEUR de  CARAMEL. I simply loved the display, the samples of FLEUR de CARAMEL were wrapped in old-fashioned candy wrappers and that colors of purple and fuchsia are simply divine. Laurie had no idea those are my two most favorite colors. So, I was sold immediately with the packaging.

I cannot stress enough how packaging is so important with a product. It presents a gift that has been designed, well-thought out and executed into a magnificent creation.

When I got time to myself I sat down and put on FLEUR de CARAMEL. Even though there were many scents at the salon, FLEUR de CARAMEL whisked me off to another place when I was a young girl. I am crazy about the Tahitian vanilla that gives it that soft and sweet coverage.

FLEUR de CARAMEL is not just to be thought of as a candy scent but it has adult accords of cognac and frangipani. So it is a most definite for evening wear.

I love it on this time of the year. The air is crisp and the hint of caramel warms me up. It is simply a work of art in a fun and adventurous way.

Laurie was so dressed for the occasion in fun and frilly attire that truly represented VELVET AND SWEET PEA PURRFUMERY. It was so great to see the time and dedication Laurie puts into her perfumery. I was overwhelmed and inspired by this.
Laurie Stern

Laurie's hard work paid off when FLEUR de CARAMEL was judged and awarded with numerous  ARTISAN FRAGRACE SALON 2012 awards!

I was one of the judges and it was such a great honor to be apart of an event that showed me more than a scent but what actually goes behind making and marketing a company, product, a dream and what I mostly got from Laurie a fabulous smile.

FLEUR de CARAMEL ingredients...This is an Oriental Vanilla perfume that consists of Tahitian Vanilla, cognac, frangipani, jasmine, tuberose, sandalwood, mandarin orange and lily with infused grape alcohol.

PURCHASE OPTIONS: FLEUR de CARAMEL Eau de Parfum  6ml  $125.00; Eau de Parfum  8ml $295.00; Creme Perfume 10ml  $295.00 (comes in an emerald sterling silver jewel box and it is wrapped like candy) Breath-taking!!!

Fragrance Launch & Review

                                      FOREST WALK
My walk in the crisp sun

I was introduced to FOREST WALK perfume at the First Annual Artisan Fragrance Salon in San Francisco in June.  I sniffed this fragrance in a very nice looking glass bottle that was overwhelming warm, woody and dewy.

My mind told me (my mind speaks to me all the time) at first to do the review as soon as I got home. But I decided later on to wait on that because I wanted to get in the exact mood for this type of scent.

Its inspiration comes from the summer scents while taking a walk in the woods. So, this is exactly what I wanted to do.

This morning in the Midwest was quite cool and with a slight foggy haze. After taking my children to school, I walked through a nearby forest of green luscious trees and manicure bushes in all sorts of reds and orange hues.

I was wearing a sample of FOREST WALK and a gust of wind blew rather strongly. The scents of fir absolute, sandalwood and oakwood absolute blew under my nose and surrounded with me with inner peace in a world that I felt was all my own. A few minutes later a scent that I had not been known to me continue its sillage all the way to my walk home.

I've encountered the other scents created in this fragrance but it was the Black hemlock that was new to me.

When I got home I wanted to know more about Black hemlock absolute. According to the well respected blog, White Lotus Aromatics (www.whitelotusblog.com) "Black Hemlock Spruce Absolute is a dark green very viscous liquid displaying an immensely rich, suave, fruity, coniferous bouquet with a sweet balsamic woody undertone of good tenacity".

Its use is to generate forest notes, fruit accords, sacred perfumes, fougere, chypre and high class floral.

Laurie Erickson, perfumer and owner of Sonoma Scent Studio understands the quality of an woodsy scent. This scent was not created just to give a mere glimpse into the woods...peering inside to get a hint of what it could possibly represent. No, Ms. Erickson immersed FOREST WALK into an actual adventure of being in the depth of the forest and experiencing with nature has to offer in its entirety.

FOREST WALK is a true replication of what I experienced this morning. It was dewy, serene, spiritual, magical, beautiful and colorfully scented.

Fragrance Notes: Black hemlock absolute, fir absolute, Western red cedar, natural oakwood absolute,  aged Indian Patchouli, galbanum resin, jasmine sambac absolute, violet, olibanum, labdanum absolute, New caledonia sandalwood, orris, benzoin, earthy notes.

PURCHASE INFORMATION:

FOREST WALK comes in 17 ml bottle for $56.00 and a 34ml bottle for $105.00 for men and women.

NATURAL PERFUME REVIEW

                                   STRAWBERRY PASSION PERFUME
                                                   The Scent for All Seasons

The collaboration between perfumers, Kedra Hart of Opus Oils for Monica Miller of Skye Botanicals and the highly successful blog, Perfume Pharmer have created a natural fragrance, in fact two that gives the strawberry fruit a tantalizing and sexy appeal.

STRAWBERRY PASSION PERFUME is made from natural perfume absolutes, natural absolutes and food grade alcohol.

It comes in two scents, Green Strawberry and Strawberry Cream. These two breath-taking aromas are essential to the fruit if you think about it.

I love the two formulas because the Green Strawberry is herbal and I visualized it growing on the vine and the Strawberry Cream is Monica's childhood favorite eating strawberries and cream while in England.

When I read about the Green Strawberry I really didn't know what to expect but I know it would probably be earthy. It is a marvelous smooth scent that flows with nature and it combines a very lasting aroma that can be worn anytime of the year.

The Strawberry Cream scent is wonderful and lively. It is an excellent introduction to a young girl's first natural fragrance. Plus, it is womanly. It will give you that extra sweetness with a blue jean and t-shirt assemble.

I actually waited to review these two fragrances because in the Midwest it has become quite cooler these days, so I wanted to compare the fragrances in humidity and the recent change in the weather.

STRAWBERRY PASSION PERFUME comes out smelling beautifully, so I am equally impressed with the Kedra and Monica's creations. It is truly a very powerful subject, "The Strawberry". It is pretty to the eyes, sweet and juicy to the taste and it gives off great healing benefits and healing properties.

Strawberries according to longlifetips.net are an "excellent source of vitamin C, managanese, dietary fiber, iodine, potassium, omega-3 fatty acids and more."

"Strawberries reduce liver cancer cells due to ellagic acid present in them."

"Along with the anti-cancer activity on cancer cells of the breast, oesophagus, skin, colon, prostrate and pancreas."

So, don't judge the packaging of STRAWBERRY PASSION PERFUME due to a nude woman on the front of it. It is what is inside that counts the most.

Inhale what nature has to offer and two beautifully scents that were created by perfumers who are passionate about their talents with a name that says it all, STRAWBERRY PASSION PERFUME.

FRAGRANCE LAUNCH

                                                          DYSIS
The Fragrance Fit for a Woman

Since my review of Radiantly Romantic Eau de Parfum last year by the brilliant perfumer and cosmetic scientist, Daniel Vaudd of Great Britian. I often wondered what he would come up next in terms of a fragrance that would equal or surpass the tantalizing pink liquid known for romance with Radiantly Romantic.

This time, Mr. Vaudd did not disappointment me. He has launched a NEW fragrance that is truly sensual in his choice of exquisite fragrance notes and in his advertising of DYSIS.

DYSIS Eau de Parfum created by Daniel Vaudd speaks to the woman in the most discrete and tasteful manner that would make any woman blush.

It comes to you presented in a beautiful French glass bottle and lithographed in platinum for the modern woman who is independent but still searches for real old-fashioned romance.
Mr. Daniel Vaudd

Mr. Vaudd handcrafted DYSIS, the fragrance with precision. It is a floral chypre and I will give you more details when Mr. Vaudd sends me a sample.

I want to announce the launch of DYSIS Eau de Parfum because a LIMITED number of samples are available. So, in order for you to feel the softness, warmth and sensual fragrance that is being offered, you have to act FAST.

What I love about DYSIS is the earthy notes and the fragrant floral notes that describe a woman in her vast roles. It speaks to me as a wife, mother, daughter and friend. It truly speaks for the single woman seeking her soul mate.

Fragrant Notes:
Top Notes: Aldehydes, neroli, blood orange

 Fragrance Event-New York

                                     ELEMENTS SHOWCASE
                                        Captures Audience with a Workshop

ELEMENTS SHOWCASE 2012 debuts Monday, August 20th and the 21st.
The excitement is building and many within the fragrance industry are looking to capture the next big name in fragrance. When I say this, I am speaking of the niche category of perfumery.

It is high-time that niche and natural fragrances be recognized for their tireless efforts in creating extremely creative scents and packaging that can only be done correctly in this category. This is my opinion and it is the truth.

The ELEMENTS SHOWCASE in New York does excellent broadcasting of these unique perfumes. It done with enormous research by the knowledgeable founders and it is done with glamour and grace that allows these unknown perfumers to show us their abilities and endless talents.

The exhibition is growing by leaps and bounds so quickly since its debut in 2011. Within a few days it comes with a workshop hosted by ROBERTET.

ROBERTET is more than a century into being one of the most recognized in the industry for perfumery and flavorings.

The workshop titled "Celebrating 160 Years of Roses" will be featured the two days of the ELEMENTS SHOWCASE at 10:00am.

It will feature a moderator and guest speakers on varies topics. The guest speakers from ROBERTET are Arnaud Adrian, Jerome Epinette and Olivia Jan.

The moderator is Jennifer Powderly of ROBERTET and this exclusive workshop is an interactive educational session which should be quite interesting and very thought-provoking, too.

The guest speakers is natural perfumer and guru to the fragrance industry, Mandy Aftel (Aftelier Perfumes). What more needs to be said...truly Awesome!

Charna Ethier (Providence Perfume Company) who in such a short time has become a shinning star in natural perfumery with unique ingredients and those unforgettable names for the fragrances. Spell bounding!

Anne McClain (MCMC Fragrances ) is based in New York and this perfumery adds to the glamour of this industry. Anne's extensive study of perfumery in Grasse (the perfume capital in France) is priceless!

Hey, I have been personally told that these two workshops will be full to capacity. I am not surprised. This is a once in a lifetime moment of experiencing an educational experience with the best in the business.

NATURAL FRAGRANCE PERFUME EVENT

PRIMORDIAL SCENTS is a project created and hosted online by Monica Skye Miller, editor of the Perfume Pharmer blog.

On this particular project one of the chemical elements that have been created by various perfumers is WATER.

This is rather a difficult craft to engage. I have smelled a few scents that described itself as a "water" scent. This was many years ago and it left me so dissatisfied that the only description I could conjure up was "plastic". Not my ideal of glistening waters.

I was sent a package of samples by Monica for review. The first of the PRIMORDIAL SCENTS project comes from a natural perfumer that I respect.

The scent is called LYLLI BLEU EAU DE PARFUM by The Scented Djinn and the perfumer is Justine Crane.

This was given to me in a sample form and when I placed it on my wrist, the first word that came to mind was 'refreshing'.  I felt like I was surrounded by clean water untouched by human hands that glides down a stream dripping in drops of a clear oasis.

I am always intrigued by scents that are wrapped in Blue Lotus such as LYLLI BLEU. This note is not used too often, so when I find a scent that uses it, I'm quite pleased.

LYLLI BLEU reminds me of when water was actually very blue. I cannot remember when the last time I have seen that kind of vision.

The name is most befitting this scent with its light and even aroma that is pretty and simply surrounds me in what nature is intended to be.

I applied it to my wrist in the evening after a nice long shower. The next morning around 7:00am I could still smell LYLLI BLEU on my wrist. By that time, the Santal on my skin rose with a tremendous blend.
Justine Crane
LYLLI BLEU is a superb fragrance. I always felt like I was in dream like state of mind when wearing it. That is what a natural perfume is. It deals with all finery of what nature has to offer and then a very talented perfumer like Justine captures the essence and with those notes form a union that benefits all of us.

LYLLI BLEU is the first fragrance representing water that I find is exactly the water element that the creator blesses us with.

Notes: Blue Lotus, Mitti, Santal, Neroli

"Redefining the High Life"

 Fragrance Review

                            THE MODERN ORANGE BLOSSOM
Houbigant is a French perfume house established in 1775 by Jean-Francois Houbigant (1752-1807). Houbigant stays true to finery in perfumes that made them a household name many years ago.

This month, Houbigant elegantly releases a NEW fragrance titled, ORANGERS EN FLEURS Eau de Parfum for women.

ORANGERS EN FLEURS celebrates the aroma of orange blossoms that symbolizes fertility, abundance and love.

Once I heard the title, I knew I had to learn more about this fragrance that lathers with one of my favorite desired scents in a perfume.

Houbigant is known for re-creating or re-formulating an established fragrance with a totally different scent that gives homage to the original.

ORANGERS EN FLEURS is a modern version of QUELQUES FLEURS fragrance.  Quelques Fleurs was originally launched in 1912 by perfumer, Robert Bienaime' and then re-launched in 1980.

Jacques Flori, senior perfumer at Robertet created the impressive orange blossom scent of ORANGERS EN FLEURS that surpasses this as not being only a one seasonal fragrance.

It is a thirst quencher in many elegant ways that can be worn day and night for all refined occasions.

This engaging scent is based not just of flirty scents not intended to last long but with notes that are proven to be long-lasting and with a remarkable appeal.

Top Notes: orange blossom, Turkish rose absolute, Egyptian jasmine absolute,
Heart Notes: tuberose, petigrain, orange leaf absolute, ylang-ylang from Comores, nutmeg
     Base Notes: cedarwood, musk

The incredibly beautiful crystal bottle that it comes in is a fest in itself that dates back to creations from the 20th century. So for style to be updated with a modern twist in a fragrance and a classical crystal bottle beholding a refined fragrance is priceless.
