Natural Fragrance Review

                                ESCAPE TO THE ISLANDS
                                                                         with
                                                        Vanilla Island by Pacifica

My time was limited one Saturday afternoon. I was seeking to find some perfumes that I had not encountered on State Street in Chicago.

I spotted Sephora and dashed in the frigid store with the a/c on intensity. I didn't care because on that particular afternoon, it was so incredibly hot.

I first looked at the makeup displays and found no satisfaction and then I went to the fragrance area and found an even worse dissatisfaction.

It was horrible. It was the standard fragrances for mass markets and celebrity gizmo. This is not my forte. I was about the leave until I spotted an area toward the end of the fragrance department that I had not looked.

There on the end was PACIFICA's 'Take Me There' set. It contains an Island Vanilla Perfume Roll-on, Body Butter (tube) and Vanilla Hibiscus Moisture Lip Tint.

I am very familiar with the fragrances created by PACIFICA. However, I had not tried Vanilla Island. I was quite pleased and noticed when I was in the so-called "natural products" area of this store, I was not bothered by the store assistants.

Vanilla Island Perfume is a warm sweet scent with a hint of fruity sensation. Mild and airy that I could see wearing on a deserted island.

I then noticed that PACIFICA offers a set that includes two other items.

Now, seeing this niche fragrance in Sephora was a little surprising to me. I normally encounter PACIFICA at my local Whole Foods.

I purchased the set and really didn't put much emphasis on the other two items because I thought it was just a selling point.

When I arrived home and later that evening applied the body cream on my hands, I noticed how creamy and rich and soft my hands became after I rubbed them together several times.
My hands were instantly EXTREMELY soft and it smelled of a wonderful Bourbon vanilla!

I applied the Vanilla Hibiscus Color Quench Lip Tint and I was pleasantly surprise that this light pink color looked good on my complexion.

Normally that color does not work well with my light caramel color complexion but I was satisfied with the results. It is indeed a tint with sheer color that is smooth and smells ravishingly tasteful.

Once again, PACIFICA satisfied me. I also admire PACIFICA for its many years of effort and partnership for environmental causes.

PACIFICA has an on-going partnership with Jean-Michel Cousteau's OCEAN FUTURES SOCIETY.

So, this also made me feel good that I purchased this  set because with each purchase a portion goes to OCEAN FUTURES SOCIETY.

Well I will say this that Sephora store made a great choice when they decided to have PACIFICA incuded in their fragrance selection. I can say at least one natural perfume is sold there. I hope my next visit to that store or any other Sephora location will add more natural perfumes to their line-up.

Its just good for the environment.

  Online Fragrance Event

                                                      CHANDLER BURR
Perfume as a work of Art

Chandler Burr already revealed the first scent of a series entitled, 'The Untitled Series'. Burr, Founder and Curator of the Department of Olfactory Art at the New York Museum of Arts and Design states that "Rethinking Perfume as a Work of Art" is helping shoppers to think about the aroma, the vision without knowing who the designer is, name of the fragrance or where it is made.

Mr. Burr showcases the fragrances in an "untitled" form by only giving the selected fragrances a number.

In the case of the first fragrance number S01E01, it is up to the consumer to come up with their version of the fragrance. Then, Mr. Burr on the beginning of each month will reveal what that fragrance is.

The Untitled Series S01E01 is...Prada Infusion d'Iris Eau de Parfum (2008) composed by Daniela Roche-Andrier.

This fragrance series takes place on opensky.com/chandlerburr and with this new approach to re-thinking fragrance it can be a personal matter but we all know that it is something about a fragrance rather it is the top, middle or base notes that makes us swoon with delight.

So join in the fun and give it a try!

Perfume Event
English Version

                       The International Perfume Museum
                                    Showcases Fragrances in Decade Glamour

The International Perfume Museum located in Grasse (Paris) is currently hosting an exhibit that started June 29th through September 16, 2012.

This stellar event examines the luxury perfume industry from the years 2000 to 2010.

Only the most outstanding creations have been chosen to be featured by a industry leaders on a committee such as chemists, perfume makers, designers and perfume historians.

The bottles displayed were chosen by the experts that convey the best in glamour, sensuality, bling-bling, urban world, vintage and the alternative perfumery known as 'Niche Perfumes'.

This exposition called, Parfum habille la Mode (Pefume: Influencing Fashion)not only emphasizes glamour but also educates consumers. For example, did you know that between the years 2000 and 2011 around 5,000 perfumes were launched!

I personally thought the number would be higher, but in the Niche Perfume category the number of fragrances launched seems to increase year after year.

The job of reviewing fragrances and writing about it is never a dull job, it keeps me on my toes. So, for the Parfum habille la Mode exhibit, I am proud to announce the Niche Perfume honorees exhibited this year.

Book Announcement

                                                              AMBERGRIS
The book that goes behind the substance

Ambergris is one of the world's most expensive substances and the least known until now...
Author and molecular biologist, Christopher Kemp explores this fascinating history of ambergris with passion and lively entertainment.

Most of us know ambergris or better known as "amber" laced in perfumes that are known to be the more expensive scents on the market. I have noticed this year that there were as many amber fragrances as their was with the popular oudh scents.

I look forward to getting more of a perspective about ambergris from Dr. Kemp who is from the state of Michigan.

The book, FLOATING GOLD A NATURAL (AND UNNATURAL) HISTORY OF AMBERGRIS published by The University of Chicago Press should be on the most acclaimed fragrance aficionado's shelf.

As a journalist myself, I look forward to speaking with Dr. Kemp and learning more by reading this book and asking questions on why it is such a popular substance in fragrances but really is not known to most of the world.

Niche Fragrance Review and Dedication

                                              MONA DI ORIO PARFUMS
The Scent That Salutes a Genius
July 19, 1969-September 12, 2011

It was shocking news almost a year ago to hear the passing of a great perfumer who was a quiet whisper in the vast fragrance industry.

Mona di Orio voice was heard loud and clear with a vision in perfumery that led all admirers near and far to the one place she loved and that was creating landmark scents that represented the Golden Age and glamour of the 1920's and 30's was her moment at best.

Mona di Orio Parfums founded in 2004 with fashion designer, Jeroen Oude Sogtoen was not only about perfume but showing their appreciation for the arts and sharing that love with people who also liked the glamour era.

I wasn't born in that era, but I could see the lights shining, the shimmer of evening dresses and the glitter of big cars turning the corner with squeaky clean chrome wheels that hummed in the late night whenever I wore a fragrance by Mona di Orio Parfums.

Mona di Orio was a genius because each of her collections still captured the moment of the 1920's and 30's but it was done with simplicity and understated elegance that embellished a core of lavishness that ruled the world.

The house of Mona di Orio Parfums honors its founder, friend and legendary perfumer with a NEW fragrance that celebrates her life.

ETOILE DE HOLLANDE EAU DE PARFUM launched in June and according to the house of Mona di Orio, it is a

"study of special roses that climbed the walls of Maison Sainte Blanche in Cabris, France".
The scent festers in the aroma of all royal roses known to humankind. It is the kind of dedication that echoes the best of everything, 'the cream of the crop".

It is the sweet occasion to having been privilege to know Mona or meet her for just one time and know that perfumery not only surrounds the one who creates it but it sweeps the hearts of all who possess...love.

ETOILE DE HOLLANDE gives its down to earth spice by being surrounded  by its peach note and Madagascar Vanilla reaching from the continent of North Africa.

I cannot imagine any other fragrance created that could match the essences of Mona. It is indeed not only a collector's item but it reaches a movement far more than we can imagine.

Thank you Mona for sharing your time, talent and treasure of providing several samples to me personally.

Your time with us was far too short but I can guarantee that your memory will live on.

Notes: Bergamot from Calabria, White Peach, Heliotropine, Bulgarian, Turkish Rose, Geranium from Egypt, Clove, Patchouli, Cedar from Virginia & Atlas, Vanilla from Madagascar, Bezoin from Siam, Ambre, Baumede Perou.

                                                             TABAC CITRON
The fragrance for French inspired moments

TABAC CITRON by Providence Perfume Company is a zestful fragrance that inspires those who dream big and seek the best from what life has to offer.

This scent inspired by the French countryside has a smooth and rich aroma that I truly loved. Its not the normal lemony scent that oozes with citrus drool but the lavender note gives it a mild almost milky consistency.

Tabac is French for "tobacco" that gives this fragrance a down to earth feel which to me makes it become a unisex scent.
To wear TABAC CITRON you must be confident and wreak with sophistication.

On several occasions I used my sample of TABAC CITRON it to bed. The next I find the scent settles down to a soft whisper of lemon that is covered in sweet meringue.

TABAC CITRON is a summer scent but you can get away wearing it in the early fall. Its a clean and refreshing scent with light and airy notes that are lavish with with beat of my heart.

Its the fragrance to wear to be your best.

Notes: lemon, provencal lavender, blond tobacco, black spruce

Natural Fragrance Review

                                                   HINDU HONEYSUCKLE
The Sweet Smell of an Old-Time Flower & Memory

HINDU HONEYSUCKLE by Providence Perfume Company reminded me of a garden I visited when I was in the seventh grade. I remember it was a rainy day and the field trip to the farm was almost cancelled due to the weather, but it wasn't because the forecast was for a sunny day later on in the afternoon.

My thought was that the firm would be full of cows, sheeps and other typical farm animals but to my surprise it was sprawling acres of colorful and scenic land full of flowers and many scents.

Honestly, I thought I went to heaven but as I strolled through the the dreamy farmland, there was one particular scent that stood out. I smelled it every where I turned...it was not get away from me. I had to find out what it was named.

Quietly, I walked up to one of the assistance and explained to her my experience with this incredible humble and sacred scent.

The lady beamed with a smile and said it is honeysuckle. I repeated the name to myself, honeysuckle, honeysuckle over and over. The honeysuckle plant and I became kindred spirits throughout my visit to this farm.

I was so pleased to encounter HINDU HONEYSUCKLE because of the memories I have with it, but with HINDU HONEYSUCKLE, there is a pleasant overall sweetness that coexist with honeysuckle and that is Indian Jasmine Sambac.

The Indian Jasmine Sambac is grown and distilled in East India and for its decorative purposes, the women in South India dress their hair with this white flower for ceremonial reasons. While its medicinal ways have been known to cure such causes as depression, anger, calm and relax the nervous system. For the use of pleasure its purposes are to arouse the intellect as well as the craving for lust.

HINDU HONEYSUCKLE is a soft sweet aroma of ancient worlds from the Far East that blends cultures and flowers with a sentiment that quietly evolves and stays on the skin for several hours.

Charna Ethier
I love how thoughtful, Charna Ethier was to express and compose a scent that caters to ancient flowers that are so deep in cultures which are still being used in today's society for ancestral dedications.

To me it clearly states that Ms. Ethier understands that not only combining fragrances but staying true to customs in diplomatic ways that provides a peaceful calming affect not only to our minds but for the world.

Notes: Indian Jasmine Sambac, Green Vertivert, Musk, Ambrette, Rose, Coriander, Bergamot and Honeysuckle

"Redefining the High Life"

Natural Fragrance

                    FRANCESCA by House of Matriarch
Redefines Fine Fragrance with a True Floral Scent

The House of Matriarch is a unique and well-researched perfumery founded by Christi Meshell.

The reason I say unique is not only does Christi create all-natural fragrances but she carefully looks into how the packaging appeals to her clients. If you look at her collection each bottle is colorful like gems, that is due to the coating on them. See, now isn't that unique! Once the bottle is open, the aroma of those spectacular natural ingredients surrounds you with a complete elegant and distinguish package for men and women.

Now the reason I say well-researched is due to her latest creation, FRANCESCA. This scent is an oasis of luscious floral from top to bottom. It has a unique essence of floral in any sense of the word. Not a dry down that in some perfumes ends up smelling like a musk, amber or woody finish.

FRANCESCA appeals to women who love receiving flowers for special occasions year after year...after year. It  represents  that greenhouse that you always wanted in your yard and it  represents the grand estates in France that is surrounded by colorful flowers as far as the eye can see.
Christi Meshell

The color coated bottle for FRANCESCA comes in a regal purple that stands out with no modesty. Christi is a very positive lady. I know, I've spoken to her on several occasions and keeping her true passion of natural scents by adding bold colors to her fragrance collection is truly,
"redefining fine fragrance".

FRANCESCA LUXURY PERFUME is full of romantic and vintages notes that appeal to my love of vintage scents and it adds a twist of modern understanding to appeal to the modern woman.

The word Francesca means "FREE" and with all fragrances by the House of Matriarch its free of synthetics, parabens, preservatives and phthalates,"nature identicals" and "fragrance" oils.

Why not ring in this day of Freedom with Red, White, Blue and Purple.

FRANCESCA is the fragrance of freedom.

Top Notes: mimosa, bronia, white sage, ravensara
Heart Notes: gardenia, antique violet leaf, guaicwood, champaca
Base Notes: vintage opoponax, grasses, oakmoss, vintage broom, orris

House of Matriarch statement "Redefining Fine Fragrances" by setting the gold stand for ultra-natural perfumes.

  Purchase: 1 ounce/30 ml spray $150.00 US
