It's not an OUTLAW...It is a privilege
This is my fifth review of the Natural Perfumers Guild's Outlaw Perfume Project. This review is based on several aspects that are exotic, inspired by a children's book, the sweet and spicy Pink Lotus flower and a modern version of a Fougere fragrance.
Gypsies were known for traveling from place to place in covered wagons to support themselves by selling anything from clothing to pots and pans. Well, there was a gang of gypsies or better stated in the classic children's book, a 'traveling carnival' who happen to stop in town. While the carnival is in town, there came a an outpouring of rain and two children by the name of Madeline and Pepito got left behind. As the story continues, the Gypsy Mama gave the drenched children medicine and hid them from any rescuers. Madeline and Pepito lived a grand life by never having to attend school, brushing their teeth or ever go to sleep.
Now one would think immediately that the Gypsy Mama have committed a serious crime in for the form of kidnapping and that Gypsy Mama is considered an "outlaw". Well, my fifth review no doubt is about a fragrance that uses perfume notes that are outlawed by big manufactures.
Gypsy Eau de Parfum by Providence Perfume Company created this fragrance to uphold the "outlaws" or in this case, the Gypsy Mama from being held responsible for her deeds. The inspiration of Gypsy Eau de Parfum comes from 'Madeline and the Gypsies by Ludwig Bemelmans. This fantasy story did not consist of law enforcement putting an 'Amber Alert' out on two missing children but what Providence Perfume Company's owner and perfumer, Charna Ethier wanted to convey in this fragrance is that although the Gypsy Mama did not use a conventional way of protecting these two children. In fact, they were sewn into a pocket for safekeeping but her intentions were good and not to harm them.
Gypsy Eau de Parfum was not created to harm your skin with the use of prohibited ingredients but to explain and inform that the Pink Lotus Absolute is a sweet and exotic fragrance with a spicy crispness that becomes a beautiful and enchanting floral smell.
Gypsy Eau de Parfum contain the following...
Top Notes: galangal, lavender, lemon petitgrain, cardamom
Heart Notes: pink lotus, bulgarian lavender absolute, violet leaf
Base Notes: tonka, oakmoss, vetiver, patchouli, costus vanilla
I truly believe this is the way Ms. Ethier examined the situation between the Gypsy Mama and the two children. The Gypsy Mama may have come off a bit on the rough side but she meant well and this is why this modern day, Fougere scent is built on one of the first scents you might smell and that is lavender.
True enough, Madeline and Pepito's teacher, Miss Clavel came back looking for them and for that reason the Gypsy Mama did not like what she saw in the crystal ball and as gypsies due best and that is "For Gypsies do not like to stay-They only come to go away".
Gypsy Eau de Parfum is a bit different. It is here to stay and defy the laws of big manufactures when it comes to using ingredients that are considered an "outlaw".
This engaging scent is demanding, sweet and lingers all day with its true scent only fading slightly.
Breaking the law with Gypsy Eau de Parfum is a chance I am willing to take.
