It's not an OUTLAW...It is a privilege
This is my sixth review for the Natural Perfumers Guild's Outlaw Perfume Project. In this particular review my perception is based on the legend of three women who became famous in their own ways by expressing either a different interpretation of dance (Isadora Duncan), hanging out with a gang of thieves (Etta Place) and having too many lovers in high places (Lily Langtry).
Isadora Duncan |
I can honestly saw that these women where not out to seek fame but as the situations for them became more intensified, they could not turn back and as a result they were known for their choices and notoriety became their so-called "reward".
The word notoriety plays a big key in this review and that is because there is a perfume with that name. It is created by perfumer and owner, Jane Cate of A Wing & A Prayer Perfume Company. Notoriety Perfume is a floral chypre scent with a emphasis on the rosewood oil.
Rosewood essential oil is described as a warm and woody scent that is both floral and fruity and it definitely describes Notoriety Perfume. It is not a fruity fragrance but differently a floral scent that describes the perplexing life of these three women. All notoriety is not good notoriety and these women were definitely seen as "outlaws".
Notoriety Perfume was created as an outcry to big manufacturers who have restricted many ingredients for natural perfumers making it almost impossible to create a natural perfume. Ms.Cate used these prohibited ingredients to give "notoriety" the following.
Top Notes: bergamot, rosewood
Heart Notes: rose, wild rose, lavender, violet leaf, carnation absolute and geranium
Base Notes: oakmoss and amber
Notoriety Perfume is truly uplifting with the immediate whiff of rosewood. It beautifully translates to a fern like scent with the billowing lavender peeking out from behind, but the media is there and there is no way to hide from the notoriety that it deserves.
Etta Place |
What seems to be clear in each of the lives of these three women is that love seems to be apparent. Ms. Duncan loved to dance, Ms. Place loved her partner the notorious, Sundance Kid and Ms. Langtry, well had too many love affairs.
Lily Langtry |
I can honestly say that Notoriety Perfume is not for the 'faint of heart'. If you are going to make a statement, you better do it and not look back.
To wear Notoriety Perfume is making a statement that encourages natural perfumers to stay true to the art and don't look back, even though there are those who consider it an "outlaw". This type of "notoriety" is good.
